I am so tempted to competely skip out on the Harry Potter fandom right now.

It makes me a little miserable that so few articulate Ron and Ginny fans are standing up publicly; that said, I haven't the energy nor the patience with people's poorly disguised psychological issues to write something myself. The daily_snitch is the root of my frustrations, if by no ( Read more... )

Thank you! Finally, a good defense of the way things turned out.

I remember discussing Hr/R with a friend a year or two ago, when I lent him the books. I asked, truly curious, "why would Hermione like Ron instead of Harry?" His answer was simple: "She just does." I got the feeling (and so did he) that there was just something between them, and I'm amazed that not everyone saw it coming. (I mean, I'm really not a perceptive person, so if *I* thought it was there, it must have been pretty obvious.....)

As for Ginny, I secretly hoped at the end of OotP that she hadn't actually given up on Harry, and JKR rewarded me for my faith. :-D A friend who's a H/Hr shipper said, as of OotP, that nothing had happened between them, so my argument, that Ginny was perfect for Harry, had nothing to do with what would eventually happen. But I guess it did. Yeah, Ginny was a bit harder, meaner, in HBP, but she's the only one who's always stuck up for Harry, always defended him. And she was so tough and brave (and willing to lie to her mother *g*) in OotP, I said "there's no way he's not going to end up liking her." Again, wasn't it obvious?

Oh, geez, now I know why your username is so familiar. I wrote your request for the dmhgficexchange last fall; it was a lot of fun! You give good request! One of these days I'll get it beta'd and revised, although now it's gone quite AU. Anyway, hi! And thanks for the great essay here.

That's honestly where I think J.K. gets the "delusional" thing from. Not that people who are H/Hr shippers are delusional people; just that she, to quote, dropped anvils by the time the fifth book had rolled around. Even if most folks didn't pick up on that tension in the earlier books, it was crystal clear by OotP.

Yes! And that's always been one of the reasons I thought Ginny was best-suited to Harry (and, incidentally, why Harry and Ron are such great friends.) Every once in a while, Harry- particularly when he's being CAPLOCKS!Harry- needs someone to tell him to shut up and stop being so overdramatic, like we all do. Hermione can't do that, due to her (very much so needed) nurturing side. Nor does she have the "whee! let's sneak under the invisibility cloak and stick a toilet seat in someone's bed!" spirit that Ginny's clearly got. Harry's got plenty of that in him, and I think its just itching for Voldemort-free time to come out. Like he said, his time with Ginny was like "someone else's life." A life where Harry can be just Harry, and not Chosen.

Yes you did! I loved the fic; have you really continued with it? I'd absolutely love to see what it looks like now, AU or no.

Forgot to add that one reason Harry's not with Hermione is that *she* doesn't like him like that. There was never a hint of jealousy during the whole Cho thing; she even tried to help him with that. For whatever reasons (and I wrote a drabble once that implied nearly pure physical attraction :-D), she just likes Ron. I suspect that Harry and Hermione both like the big, fun Wizarding family that is the Weasleys; that's got to be an attraction for two Muggle-born kids who are only children (or near enough to it). Hee! I've always thought that, too. At least for Harry- Hermione seems to adore her Muggle family, if be equally fascinated by the Wizarding world- but I'm sure at least subconsciously, Ginny's family is a huge plus for Harry.
