So, for a homework break I finally watched the GG series finale.
Can you say ridiculously love??? Because I did. I thought it was a great tribute to the show. It wasn't perhaps the series finale I always imagined for the show, but it still managed to break my expectations. Some of my favorite highlights.
- Seeing the camera pan across the townsfolk as they welcomed Rory to her party. Babette, Kirk, Ms. Patty, Gypsy, Morrie, Sookie, Jackson, etc. Just made me start crying right there. It was like saying good-bye to all these beloved characters.
- The ironing scene, where Lorelai admitted she just couldn't think about it all yet or she'd break down.
- Babette asking Lorelai if she wanted to be part of a Morrie sandwich.
- Emily trying to find ways to stay part of Lorelai's life. It was amusing but very poignant too. No jeans at Friday night dinners.
- Ending as how it began. I liked the homage to the original episode, with the girls just chatting at Luke's. Perfect.
Those were some of my favorite moments, but really, I felt it was a very well put together episode. And you know what, I'm perfectly happy with the Luke and Lorelai kiss. I can imagine they'll go on to be happy together. I think that's what that ending meant for them. And honestly, I'm glad they didn't focus too much on Luke. I wanted it to be about Rory and Lorelai and at the heart of the episode, it truly was about them.
So, bon voyage Gilmore Girls. I'm going to miss you big time next season and all I can think is, thank goodness for tv dvd sets. I don't know where I'd be without them.
