Some kind of positive career news...

I was at my local library today, the one I worked at in high school. I was talking to the director, my previous boss, and she mentioned that Betty, one of the librarians, is retiring in September, than taking vacation until the new year. Or something like that. Anyway, I asked about the position and if it would be possible for her to keep me in mind for it. She said that she had already discussed with a few of the other librarians possibly bringing me back to staff in January (and not as a shelver/clerk, but as a pseudo-librarian, doing cataloging/desk work, other things, but things I'm going to be learning about in my classes.)

It's by no means a done deal but I'm really hoping that it works out. I'm going to continue looking for work though in the mean time of course. Actually, I had an interview last Friday for a shelver position at the James J. Hill Library, which is a business library. The interview went ok, I didn't do all that great, nor all that bad, but to be honest, I don't want the job, so I hope I don't get the position. It's 30-40 hours a week which I know now is going to be way too much to work and go to school at the same time. They seemed pretty adamant that those would be the kind of hours they needed. On top of that, it's in downtown St. Paul where parking is scarce to say the least. I'd have to park in a ramp or take a bus every day (which I DO NOT WANT TO DO!) so that's another issue for me. The interviewer said she'd let me know after Labor Day. I know it's kind of bad to hope NOT to get a job, but that's what I'm hoping. I don't want to work in a business library, I want to work in a public library. Those are the kinds of materials I enjoy. And while maybe working in a business library for the short term wouldn't be so bad, I'm still kind of eh about it all.

In the meantime, I'm going to keep looking. There's a job board down in the MLIS wing of my school building with all kinds of positions on it, so I'm going to look at that next week. I don't want to narrow my options down afterall.

ephramyfan, I've got my fingers and toes crossed that a position opens up for you. I know you're going to make such a great librarian and I really want someone to give you a chance. Plus, it'd be the PERFECT birthday gift. Here's hoping.
