It's been a while

Wow, it's been over 3 months since my last entry. I suppose I should start with the fact that I'm still alive.

Hmm, there's nothing really new on the dating scene for me...so I apologize for that one.

I went to Chicago for the first time a couple Saturday's ago for an information session at the Consulate General of Japan. To do this I stayed awake until about 9pm on Friday night after waking up around 5pm Thursday evening. So, I slept off and on from about 9pm to about 2:40am when I finally got up and showered. I got to the airport a little after 4am and had to wait until about 5am before the security gates opened up. My plane left shortly before 7am and I got into Chicago around 8am. After taking a taxi into downtown I strolled around the area where the Consulate was located until the session started around 1pm. The session lasted until about 5:15pm and I was able to get back to the airport around 6:15pm for my 7:30 return flight. I slept for a good chunk of the return flight of which I don't even remember the takeoff. Okay...that's the gist of the day and probably too much detailed information.

The information session was very helpful, but at the same time I already knew most of the information provided there by reading things on the internet. It was also beneficial because now I know where I would be interviewing if I get to that stage in the process. Speaking of that, my application is coming along nicely. I pretty much have everything ready except finalizing my statement of purpose and getting the letters of recommendation from the two people who are writing them for me. Everything has to be in to the Japanese Embassy in Washington D.C. by 5:30pm on December 3rd.

I learned two of the Japanese texts(Hiragana and Katakana) back in August and September and I still have the Kanji left. Kanji has about about 10,000 characters, so I don't think that will be happening right away. Hiragana and Katakana only have about 40-50 characters or so for each of them.

I also started my volunteer work with ESL students back in September. I am enjoying it very much and it only makes me look forward to the possibility of teaching in Japan even more.

Hmm, that's about it. My new nephew is still a few weeks away. I think they've decided on the name Preston for him, but I'm not sure if that will change.

Anywho, I think that I'll leave it at that for now.
