Just the same, Sherlock's insecurities made me feel so much for him. From the beginning (begging John to come to him -- he's stooped to actually asking!) until the end, when, despite returning to him after John's wife's death, Sherlock is still unsure whether John will stay.
And of course, I love the last part. I love John's patience and understanding for Sherlock's inexperience and fears. I love that, in the end, Sherlock was willing to give it a try because it's John. It's more than sex to him. This is probably my favourite bit: It doesn’t. Irene Adler parading around in no clothes, asking him to ‘dinner’, that wasn’t really alarming. This though? John Watson asking him to willingly make himself more vulnerable than he’s ever been with another person? Perhaps that is somewhat alarming. Sherlock is willing to lay himself bare to John because he trusts him. It's not the physicality of the act, but the meaning behind it.
I absolutely love this fic and I'm so glad I got to help, minor though it was. :)
