The new community
gatewaysucks is up and running. Slowly and surely we will be working on updating the website. Now all we need to do is get word of this community out to others. Hell, even if people don't have livejournal, we still have the website!
http://leopardwolf.qpine.net/gatewaysucks.html Aside from that, quite a bit has been going on. We had some wonderful rain the other day. And we got to drive in it! Horizontal all the way, woo!! Ahem. The reason is because we had to go to Best Buy for computer parts.
Grandma and Aunt Jackie decided that for my birthday they'd put out the money so Mike could build me a new computer while he was here. I needed it. So we went online to do most of the parts ordering from the same place he got the parts to build Frank's computer.
To make a long story short we got everything we needed and some extra along the way. We'd run in to some problems and weren't sure if it was the motherboard or processors and stores were closing, so we wanted to be safe than sorry. We returned the extra motherboard, but I now have a brand spanking new AMD processor here. I suppose I have to find someone to sell it to now. Any takers? =)
I also have some other parts. I'll make a list of them later if anyone is interested, and I'll probably find some LJ community for selling and trading to post in as well. Because these extra parts cost money, and it's my grandmother's money. We told her we could do all this for around $600 at most, and I want to give her back all the money we can from this.
So I give a biiiiig hug and thanks to my grandmother and aunt for being willing to do this, and an extra special thanks to my wonderful mate for building this system, even with the handful of problems we came across while doing so.
The most recent being..... get this... we're downloading drivers online, it's the oooonly thing we were doing. From ligit sites too, the people who made the products. Somewhere along the line we got a damned Trojan. Juuuust as he was about to install SystemWorks too, oi. So we went online to do the scan because we heard this odd beeping. He wanted to know why. He went to msconfig and whaaaam. Whole long list of run executes, and the thing disguising itself as unwise.exe, which is a ligit Windows file by itself. We're still trying to figure where the hell it came from.
Drivers for my TV tuner, Direct-X, Windows Critical updates? Those are really the only things we'd done prior to noticing the beeping. At least it was a nice virus! It let us know it was there thanks to those beeps! We figure it beeped (using a Windows indicator beep no less) because being associated/named the way it was it could have somehow made the computer think it was that Windows file, and in turn when it executed, gave the chime. If that makes any sense.
So we formatted and installed SystemWorks first thing. Now everything seems to be fine.
Huzzah!
