Heavy rain + UNO =....

WET.... very wet. UNO campus turned into Lake UNO!

Last night I settled in and it was raining outside. The wind had picked up a bit, and the forecast for today said that we'd be getting severe weather. It also said that weather wouldn't be coming through until later tonight. Of course, they were wrong.

I got up and it was raining. We out of the house and on the road, and it was immediately obvious that the front must have come through a lot sooner than was expected. Coming across the Twin Span and looking back to the Northshore as we headed into New Orleans East... it was boggling how dark the clouds were! You could see the sheets of rain clearly in the distance. And lightning and thunder, woo!!

I loooooove storms. I loooooove taking pictures of lightning. Today I had classes. I have my umbrella. Bit it's not a huge one. Just a little thing. We took the back way we've been going that cuts about 30mins off of our travel time on good days, and yet there was still a horrible backup. By the time we'd gotten to Elysian Fields over by the school, the roads were starting to flood from the sudden and constant downpour. Already I had a silly feeling that I'd get wet one way or another.

The wind was blowing and created horizontal rain. Mom and I made a pit stop by the UC and got drenched just getting out of the car right next to the overhang. She told me she'd get me as close to my first class, in the Liberal Arts building, as she could. I know the roads runs across that way, so I readily agreed. Otherwise I knew with the way the rain was falling at that point, I'd be soaked before I got two feet.

So we meandered our way over. Only to find the road on the side of the Liberal Arts building was already almost flooded on one side. It was pretty bad. But mom made a loop and set me out on the curb as close as she could get. There's a sidewalk that leads up to the building. The courtyard grassy areas all around were totally flooded with probably a few inches of water, so I didn't even bother considering cutting across. I made a bee line for the sidewalk clutching my umbrella so it wasn't blown away and scuttling along.

I took about three steps and realized that there was so much water it was actually running off onto the sidewalk and flowing like a small stream. So yeah. I also stepped right into enough water that went right over my foot. I leapt forward as quick as I could and managed to save from getting totally soaked to the point where I was squishing. I made it to the building and took a moment to look around. Mom was already driving off, trying to get through the water without the car stalling out.

I headed in and ran into two classmates. We headed up to the room where our class is held... only to find the lights were off. No one there. And it was time for class to start. So we're left wondering if class was canceled and we just weren't told. So I suggest we go check the english office. We did, but it was empty too. So we decided to use the ten minute rule. Went back to class and the teacher had just gotten there. There were only a small handful of us that showed. And all the time we're sitting in there going over our essays and thunder is rattling the building.

Car alarms going off like crazy. Sounded like some major crises outside, and we couldn't help laughing every time a new boom set them all off again. To make a long story short it rained very hard all day. All of my classes were rather empty because obviously some people got flooded in and couldn't get out, or couldn't get their cars through the water. Some people just flat out didn't feel like getting out in that horrible weather. Not that I blame them.

I got soaked each time I went between buildings. From Liberal Arts with English, over to Business building for Human Sexuality class. Then running to the UC for my break until Anthropology. Then I had to run aaaaaaall the way back to Liberal Arts building. I got there and after my Anthropology class I was like, hell, my next class is in this same room in an hour, so I'm going to park my furry ass here and wait. So I sat and waited with two other people and we talked. For the longest time no one else showed, and we thought we might be the only ones there for the art class. We were all soaked from our various campus traveling. Finally time for class came and a handful of people showed.

Most of the classes were rather empty. Dr. King's class was especially. He made a comment saying that everyone who was there should get credit for coming out on such a nasty day and so early and being diligent enough to come to class. Whether he gives it to us or not, is another story. Fine Arts though, we did get points! Five for a looking assignment deal, and we also got a special question to use on the next test. We have to figure out the name of a woman in a particular painting, woo. But hey, the more points the merrier!

So after class I have to wait till around 4:30pm-5:00pm for mom to get off work and pick me up. I was soaked and it was a bit nippy. My shoes were worse off than anything else. So I covered up with my jacket and took a nap. Then I left and we headed home. I got home and one of the first things I did was take my shoes off. WOO!! Hehe. Then I settled in a bit and decided that I wanted to soak in a hot bath for a while and relax.

A week or so ago I got some little bath fizzy ball aromatherapy things from Wal-Mart. They were only $1, so I got three of them to try and see how good they were. I used the stress relief one tonight, which had lavender in it. WOW!!!! Simply AWESOME!! I am insisting that we go buy more tomorrow when we go shopping to prep for my New York trip. That thing smelled sooooo awesome, and it left my skin soft just like it said it would, and made me feel a lot better. And I still smell like lavender!! I'm so pleased with them. Normally you buy that sort of stuff and it turns out to be cheap and doesn't work well at all, has no scent. Like a lot of candles. But then sometimes you get really good ones that were worth taking the chance for. Glad mom told me to go ahead and get them that day, mwahaha.

Hmm. The TV just started beeping at us like crazy. We're under severe thunderstorm warnings and flood watches until 2:00am, woooiieee! Hopefully we won't float away in the night.
