I just wrote an EPIC slam poem! I had sketched it out a few days ago, and I just finished it, and wow! It's super long, really pushing the 3-minute limit, but God! I'm so psyched to perform it tomorrow in Boston! It's called Love and Oral Hygiene (at least for now that's what it's called), and it's about falling in and out of love while engaged in bathroom rituals, such as flossing, brushing teeth, shaving, watching each other in the mirror, yet there are so many references to "the fall" from various myths/literature, such as Icarus, Persephone/hades, Dante/Beatrice, Adam/Eve. It actually works nicely as an extended metaphor, since brushing your teeth is about trying to attain cleanliness, remove particles that cause decay, and losing innocence is essentially losing this ideal hygiene. Also, Persephone and Eve both are corrupted by food, which lends them nicely to my metaphor of teeth-cleaning. Yay! I'm so happy right now!
