Wedding update: dress blues

May 05, 2007 17:21

Mom brought me a dress she found at a local boutique. It's not what I had in mind but it's lovely... and it doesn't fit! WAAH! It's too small!! We went back to the boutique to look for a larger one but they don't have any. GRRRRR.

She says we can alter it (the dress is actually a suit set; the skirt fits perfectly, the jacket less so in the arms, and the tank top is too damn tight) by adding insets under the top's armholes. I have serious doubts about that, but I don't know squat about sewing except replacing buttons and repairing the occasional hem.
There's also the small point that I had already picked a dress... Yes, the one she found is lovely but I'VE PICKED MINE ALREADY.

The underlying cause of all this mess is that Mom has gone wedding-crazy. This isn't as bad as it sounds, she bought me some towel sets and bed linens for my new life with Chris. 350-threadcount 100% cotton sheets, anyone? *grin*

She also wanted to look at kitchen accoutrements (oh dear, big-word-philia strikes again). I reminded her that not only am I flying home -therefore luggage weight must be kept to a minimum-, my new husband and I will be living with his parents for a while until we can get out own home (more on that situation later).

I also got a couple of new sets, one for work and a denim one for weekends. I loooove when my Mommy's feeling so generous. )I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't admit it... and I loathe hypocrisy!)

I'll have to start clearing out my closet soon, to get rid of everything I haven't used in a few months because I don't want to. The corporate camouflage I'm keeping, I'll need it to look for a job and navigate interviews. As for the shoes, I'll ask Sis T. if she wants any of what I'm leaving; we wear pretty much the same shoe size. I've given up on wearing heels, my back can't take the strain anymore.

I can't wait to be home.

marriage, chris, wedding, love
