I'm buying Chris a new pair of glasses. Not as a Christmas gift but as a necessity. His regular pair was already losing the anti-glare coating when the frame snapped at the rim, and the older pair is failing at the hinges too.
We went to get a copy of his prescription (I am SO glad he had an eye exam a couple of months ago!) and then got some quotes. The optometrist's best offer is $218. Yikes.
We then went to the other eyeglass place at Fox Run because I know they're better priced... they were closed! Chris was SO mad... me too.
Since we had time to kill he was sweet enough to go with me to a little store next to the Goodwill. I didn't find a bento box there but I did get two metal sieves for $0.99 each, and a gorgeous rose shape muffin pan at Goodwill. Score!
Oh, right, some of you may not know what bento means. Bento is a packed Japanese lunch. Remember when you were a kid and watched stuff like Astro Boy, Minky Momo or other Japanese cartoons? In at least one episode you'd see someone with a cloth-wrapped package or eating a rice ball. That's the more traditional style of bento, a square box wrapped in a cloth where you carry stuff like rice balls, gyoza (dumplings) and other stuff that doesn't need refrigerating or reheating.
