Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
I know to a lot of die-hard FFXIII fans out there that this is some old news, but because only recently my love for Final Fantasy was rekindled, I was overwhelmed with joy at the prospect of a new Final Fantasy XIII sequel.
Just as an overview of my Final Fantasy history, I've played IV, V, VI, VII, a little bit of Crisis Core, and a little bit of XIII (but not much). I also watched Advent Children and found that extremely satisfying to watch = particularly the Battle in the Forgotten City (along with the awesome music)!
Only a month or so ago, I didn't really think about Final Fantasy. But when I heard of XV coming out and watched the Japanese trailer for it, I felt my balls contract with happiness and anticipation. That, combined with the memories of playing Dissidia 012 Duodecim sparked my interest of Final Fantasy XIII. Though I do not own a PS3 or an XBOX 360, I contented myself by watching the movie/cutscene version of the game, and my love for XIII exploded. Pretty soon, I bought a Postcard Book starring all my favorite characters (particularly Lightning and Hope!) from Kinokuniya for quite a bit, and bought a small keychain replica of Lightning's Blaze Edge gunblade.
But I wanted more. I wanted more XIII sequels, and above all, I became overly obsessed with Hope and Lightning getting together at some point. Though I knew such a thing would probably not happen in the game, I nevertheless continued hoping and found myself spending hours in front of the laptop reading Hoperai fanfictions and doujinshis. Much thanks to the people who wrote/drew/made them all! Please keep feeding me more! <3
Watching XIII-2 cutscenes was a bit confusing at first, but the more I watched it, the more interested I became. I wasn't particularly enthused by the fact that you couldn't play as Lightning, but I found it immensely satisfying as I saw Hope as an adult! I was thinking of all the funky stuff that would happen if the older Hope got together with Lightning [somehow], and right when my mind started making some indecent images in my head, I saw Lightning Returns.
Final Fantasy XIII with a gameplay similar to Crisis Core? What a time to be alive! I could hardly breathe as I watched the trailer for it and frantically looked at the site. I did feel, however, a bit disappointed when Hope mysteriously turns back into the cute kid he was in the beginning of the series. I just kind of wished he was an adult to add some...spice into the relationship between him and Lightning. Furthermore, as I read reviews and news about the new Final Fantasy XIII game, I was kind of shocked when the directors began talking about altering Lightning's physical attributes to make them more...busty. I was pretty indifferent to it at first, but I just don't think that Lightning is the kind of person who would flaunt around with her sexiness. I think she's more of the stern hero with a cool gaze and all and she's both hot and badass. The only thing that bothered me the most about the game is the time limit of 13 days (according to the game - if it were 13 REAL days, I could probably finish it in 2 haha). I mean, I think it's interesting that Final Fantasy is taking a new approach and all, but isn't the entire series based off of exploration and taking your time figuring things out? Having a time limit is good in some cases (like in FFV, there was a time limit before a castle exploded), but those are more for short periods of time and not for the entire game. Without the luxury of having time, I feel like I might have to rush through the game and feel a bit urgent while I'm playing it (which I'm assuming that's what the creators want to instill, but I still think it's not very...yeah...).
Despite these facts, I honestly cannot wait for Lightning Returns to be released! I'm currently looking for a part-time job with a decent salary so I can start saving up for the game and buy my own PS3. I'll also be buying the first two parts of FF XIII so I can experience firsthand what it's like. Wish me luck as I continue my journey!
I'm also waiting for new chapters and series for the Hoperai fanfics I'm addicted to, and I'm looking forward to some great DJ's coming out as well! I'm gonna pray everyday for it to happen! xD
That's enough of my two cents for now. I'm usually on this site to read DJ's and fanfics, but I'll also try to be more active concerning my journals and stuff. I'm also currently working on my own fanfics, which I'll be posting shortly after I'm done. Please be sure to read them over and review them! I'm not the best writer on the block, but I hope you all enjoy it when it is released!
