Life is moving on at a steady pace. A lot of change has occurred since the last time I wrote here. There are a lot of things to look forward to.
I just logged on and read a few of my past entries. I have been writing here so long - eight years now - that I can trace my life in this blog. (At least the parts that matter, anyway.)
M- called me a few days ago. It was good to hear her voice. In a few moments we caught up with what is going on in our lives. She was driving to church in her wagon and talking over the speaker phones. She was saying it is getting increasingly difficult to find people our age, in their churches. A lady befriended her in the last church she visited and she was well over 60 years old. It is only in the mega-churches, who hold their services in packed stadiums that you find youngsters attending. These have services with much pomp and show. I am guessing they will also have many Christian rock bands doing regular concerts. But she is still looking for the spiritual element.
I admire how the church and affiliated activities are a central engagement in her life. I almost wish I could follow the same path and perhaps someday I will. I told her I am sticking to Business Studies for now. She told me there are two areas that greatly influence our everyday lives - business and politics. And that in all her international work she has realised this to a great extent.
And yes, she said she was voting for Obama. And this is because the government's international policies affect her work directly and Obama had so far voiced his support for the kind of work that she is doing.
Now that Obama is back for a second term, she must be happy. I hope to see her again someday. If my PhD thesis gets accepted, I will see her soon. And I told her so.
We got off the phone just as she was moving into the parking zone of a small church in Muncie that she had very recently discovered.
