Warped Tour 2009

Yesterday was the fucking shit. So I am not going to lie, I thought Warped Tour was going to be extremely whack. Nothing to do with the bands playing this year or the weather. I thought it was going to be whack because I knew absolutely no one that was going. See, every year I have gone with my friend Jon. When me and Jon get together, shit is awesome. Jon is usually my wing man in the mosh pit. And how the hell was I going to go into a pit for Flogging Molly without my wing man?!?!?!?!

But I got super lucky. As I was walking toward the Coliseum, I see Irina walking towards me. Which was pretty shocking. As chill as she is and how awesome her music taste is, she was definitely one of the last people I expected to see at Warped Tour. I met her friend, whose name escapes me right now. And her friend’s cousin runs this awesome webzine called the Shakedown which had its on tent. I am hoping once I get the interview with Antennas Up she will run it. Which reminds me that I need to get on top of that.

Oh, and Brandon was there with his friend Max. Max was a pretty cool cat with a decent taste music. Should make a note that when I hang with Brandon when we are LI that I have him have Max come along. That would be pretty groovy. Actually, Warped was a day of random run ins once again. I ran into Tom from NCC, who I haven’t seen in two years. Funny enough, the last time I saw him was at Warped after helping his sister out. Was pretty random that time as it was now, because I saw him with Giovanna. Who, is still being a small child. Oh well, her lost. And I ran into Gaby, from LWA. Which, was another random encounter. Probably one of the more awkward conversations of the day too.

When it comes to who I saw, I can’t say Warped was disappointing. The first band I got to see was Big D and the Kids Table. Now I have heard of them from my friend Trevor and gave I think one song a listen. They were pretty decent live, I probably would have gotten more into them if I was inside the crowd and they weren’t the first band I saw. I usually have difficulty being psyched for the first band. The next band I got to see was Less Than Jake, whose set was entertaining but pretty weak as far as getting me amped. They didn’t play a single song that I was a fan of. Boooo!! Next on the list was Streetlight Manifesto, who I go to see up in Albany once or twice. They hard a pretty fucking sick set. The only downer was the fact their set was like 4 songs due to the band schedule getting all fucked up. Fuck you Underoath for being talent less pricks and fucking the day up. Learn to sing, assholes. Then we stayed for this band Westbound Train. They sounded ok, but my biggest issue was that I couldn’t understand the singer at all. So that killed it for me, so we walked away. I completely missed Bayside’s set. L Not cool, but whatever. As much as I love them, the last time I saw them at Warped I wasn’t too impressed. So I guess no real loss. Oh, so new band that Warped got me psyched about was Tat. They are this band from London with a female singer that wasn’t half bad. The songs I heard were a little repetitive in sound, but they are fairly new with an album just out, so I am hoping their sound evolves.

Now for the beastly three I got to see. Starting off the trio is NOFX. First off, those motherfuckers are old. God, saying that makes me feel old as fuck. >.< Anyway, their set was hilarious. I knew two of their songs by heart and recognized a few others. They got the crowd going and the energy was sick. Irina crowd surfed about 4 times during their entire set. Max went once and Brandon went I think 3 times. I can’t fully remember. I know they tried to get me to go, which I didn’t because I am fat as fuck. Then came the band of the night for me. The whole reason I bought a ticket in the first place. Flogging Molly. They were beast. Their set had endless energy, there was a constant pit going and if u weren’t in the pit you were vibing along or surfing. One of the three. It was amazing. SOOOOO GREAT!! I went into the pit and skanked my ass off. It was great. And of course, Bad Religion. I wasn’t in the crowd for them. I had retreated due to my knee beginning to pussy out. Which made me sad. I still enjoyed their set, which was epic and raw and great. But I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was actually in the crowd. I don’t know, when you’re in the crowd surrounded by a bunch of sweaty people who all have a decent amount of energy you just get more amped. Its like everyone is running off this collective battery. Its an amazing feeling.

Oh, and remember how I told you guys remember a while back, I lost my camera on a cab. Well, I guess karma is something made of awesome. Because as I was chilling during Warped, I see this camera just chilling by itself on the ground. The camera in question is a Canon PowerShot S515. This is something like a $400 camera with a 4GB SD card in it. I did ask around, trying to find its owner. No such luck. Or was it lucky? Who knows. I have a new camera, I’ll probably still buy another camera because this one is too beast to carry around all the time.

All in all, Warped Tour Was pretty good. I’d give it about 7.5 out of 10. I wonder what I’m going to do next year since I am trying to move to Albany. Will I go to the Buffalo venue or will I trip back down to the Coliseum? Hmmmm, I guess you’ll have to wait another year and find out.

update, warped tour, friends, happy
