Masculinity vs. Femininity
Category: Religion and Philosophy

[this blog is specially dedicated to the following: Chris Serrano-who made me realize that you don't have to be "masculine" to be a guy. K.T. Tunstall Stevens(lmao)-You're unafraid of what people think of you, and unafraid to bend the rules/roles of gender weird and wacky, and for THAT i admire you.]

This topic is a fascinating one if you really think about it... it has interested me since watching a documentary on the History Travel about the third gender, otherwise known as transgender. This leads me to think, what actually makes someone masculine or feminine? Although society has become more open minded and accepting of "Taboo" things, roles of sexuality, and gender are still clearly defined. Even in homosexual relationships, things are still defined as who is the girl and who is the boy, when (we all know) the point of a gay relationship is that both individuals are of the same gender. Which leads me into questioning who defined these roles? Who decided that wearing makeup is feminine, and riding motorcycles is masculine? Is it God? (although I'm pretty sure that God is genderless) Is it society? I am fascinated by the people who bend the rules of gender and role. One example is the Female to Male Transgender who, although his exterior makes him seem like a man, and he Identifies as a man, still has the reproductive organs of a woman. Furthermore, he plans to get pregnant and raise children. Some may find that disturbing, but I (the child of a single parent) find it to be the epitome of a one individual taking on the roles of both the mother and father. In short, we all need to reevaluate our opinions and our mindsets. So next time you see a transgender person walking down the street, acknowledge that you feel uncomfortable, but analyze why, and you will realize that you know nothing of that person, and it is unfair to judge them as it would be unfair to judge anyone before getting to know them.

ciao.

This is a blog post of a really close friend. In a way, I think of him as family. Its surprising the bonds you can build with a person in a semester and how strong they can stay even after not seeing them for two years. Thanks, bro. You know who you are and our friendship means more to me then I think you may ever know.
