Detective Leonheart? Shin Mouri. I had an interview with Mr. Mustang set up, before he departed the City.

I'm sorry, that wasn't clear. I'm just wondering if there's someone else I should arrange to speak to?

I was supposed to go home... but I'm not sure I have one. So I went to the apartment instead.

Shin showed up and knocked politely on the door. The knock was completely a ruse. He had his sub-armor on under his clothing and he was completely willing to break down the door, if Squall didn't answer promptly. The man sounded nothing like he had during the prison incident, when he'd been sharp and focused. Shin's empathic skills -- already keen and honed -- were practically screaming at him that something was wrong. He just had no idea what.

The answer didn't exactly come promptly, but before Shin could make good on his willingness to break the door in, it swung open almost, it seemed, of its own accord, slowly rather than purposefully. The apartment it opened to was dim, the only light coming in through the windows, nothing else turned on.

Squall's hand dropped from the doorknob, and he stood looking at Shin with a face empty of any expression - no welcome, no curiosity, no wariness, nothing but a blank passivity. He said nothing, and his Network device dangled loosely from his other hand as though he'd forgotten he was even holding it.

Shin was more worried than ever, now. "May I come in?" he asked the other man, a frown creasing his forehead. His eyes darted behind Squall, taking in the poorly lit and barren apartment.

Squall looked back over his shoulder for a moment, vaguely tracking Shin's glance behind him at the apartment. The room was clean and Spartan, but furnished and at least not completely vacant... too bad the same couldn't be said for its occupant.

"...okay," he said presently, in a voice without inflection. And stood there for a moment longer before it seemed to occur to him to step back and give Shin room to come in through the open doorway.
