[+] I *really* need to rotate in some new icons.
[+] You guys. WATCH UNDERGROUND.
You guys. This show is going to give me a freaking heart attack. I was commenting to a friend that I feel like the Elizabeth/John parts are kind of boring (Marc Blucas and Jessica de Gouw, who play an abolitionist couple setting up their home to be a stop on the Underground railroad), but they are necessary, because I literally feel like my heart is going to beat straight out of my chest and flop around on the floor, bloody, when we're at the plantation.
In press, a lot of the actors are commenting on the Macon 7. Right now there are nine characters involved with the escape, and I didn't imagine that all of them would make it anyway, but here's who I think is *relatively* safe, and who I think might not make it on the run.
Safe: Cato, Zeke, Pearly Mae
Unsure: Moses, Boo, Sam, Henry
And obviously, Noah and Rosalee are already gone (oh, we'll get to that). I think Cato and Zeke are the ones who will be the most interesting on the run. Cato obviously has his own agenda, and Zeke has lost everything, and is so damaged now, and falling under Cato's spell. That makes him wildly dangerous.
Between Pearly Mae and Moses, I knew they both wouldn't make it. Because this show obviously likes to make things hurt. And Adina Porter is kind of more of a name, and Pearly Mae really has been doing all the work that Moses was supposed to be doing behind the scenes (in fact, I think Moses is *definitely* out). Boo is kind of a wild card, because she's a little girl, and probably would not have very good chances on the road, but I don't know if this show is really willing to be that brutal to a child. (Not that it didn't happen in real life, I'm sure, but I don't know if they'll show it on primetime, not premium cable tv.) Also, if Pearly Mae loses her husband and her daughter, I feel like that would zap her of a lot of strength and energy.
Sam and Henry are both wildcards too. Because they're young men, and strong, with skills that Noah has said will be needed by the overall group (though I think Sam's part is mainly in preparation), but of the group, Sam would be most important to Rosalee and Henry would be most important to Noah. And this show makes things hurt.
And the thing that hurt the MOST was that awful scene with all the field hands holding those beams (did Tom say train tracks?) over their heads, and that close up shot of the old man struggling. That was pretty awful. But the thing that REALLY hurt the most is that right before, he's in the woodshop with Sam, just palling around and shooting the breeze and hand me a hammer! and all smiles. You know what's strange though? It's not surprising that much was made of the seal being stolen, but no one has said a peep about the pistol taken from the Shaw plantation. Like, seriously I don't think that would go unnoticed. But oh well, I don't expect it too, because we have ground to cover and there are ONLY SEVEN EPISODES LEFT.
More ground to cover- Ernestine's family tree. I'm kind of unsure about Tom being her kids' father now. Ernestine herself is very light-skinned. But I'm unsure because I'm fuzzy on Rosalee's and Sam's ages. (Sam looks like he's the same age as Ernestine.) Tom has said that he was master of the plantation for 20 years. Noah is 25. Age was different then, but I don't think they'd make Rosalee like ten years younger than him (I feel like she's probably about 19). It is likely that Tom is James's father. And Sam feels 'abandoned' by Ernestine but I have no doubt that whatever she did to maneuver him around, she did for his own protection. I'm pretty obsessed with Ernestine. I have no doubts about her motives, at any time.
Very little August in this episode. But I think it's definitely to note how much he observed Rosalee at church. Also, it gives a little perspective on the geography of our characters. I kind of felt like August was much further north than the plantation.
Okay, can we talk about Rosalee and Noah? And how they are, like, the best kind of ship to ever throw your hat in the ring with? First of all, they are freaking SMOKING chemistry. But second of all, it preserves your heart, because I'm sure tons of scary shit is going to happen to them, but they are the leads of the show, so I think they are physically safe, at least for a good long while. And also, this is not a Ship Show, with lots of shipping options and people hopping into bed with one another in a round robin. This is a ship you can safely invest in.
And that makes it sound like it's a business decision or something, but it's not, it's not! Can we talk about how Noah, after so meticulously planning this escape, Michael Scofield-style, down to the last minute just chucks it all (his friends, etc.) and RUNS WITH HER. No questions asked! RUN WITH ME. (I.E. be with me forever).
