Oh my gosh, you guys. You guys. You guuuuuuuys.
So. Michael has been acting weird for a couple of weeks, and insisting that we're getting a dog. Now, I would love to have a dog to cuddle with when I got home, but we live in the city without a yard, and we're both out of the house twelve hours a day. It's not realistic.
But he's been on this kick, also telling me that the 'dog place' is in the woods, and I would need shoes I could hike in. Hmmm, a puppy farm up a hiking trail? You don't say? I have to admit, I had a 'feeling', but I kept talking myself out of it.
So, we went on Sunday (and I was protesting this, because it was Mother's Day, but my mother and whole family were in on it). We got to an area called the Blue Hills in Braintree, MA, and he was like, it's right up this hill! (He's so friggin' cute, the way he planned this.)
So...I am *not* an outdoorsy kind of girl, and I never went camping. Still, I had a feeling, and it felt kind of momentous to be climbing up this mini-mountain (it was very rocky, and a little scary). So. We got to the top (and as we have been telling this story to family and friends, this is where he usually takes over).
He had scoped out this spot about a month ago, and he planned to do it at the very top...but as it was Mother's Day, there were a few people around having picnics and whatnot. So he got fidgety for a little while, but eventually he just set me down in front of him, and he kissed me and it was all very simple. ("Baby, I love you. Will you marry me?")
And I started bawling, and he put the ring on me, and everyone around us started clapping. We just held each other for a little while, and then one of the people near us (she was with what looked like her husband and baby), quietly came over and said she didn't want to disturb us, but she is a photographer and when she saw what was going on, she snapped off a few shots.
I am so, so impressed with this ring. I know that this is not the important thing- I've even told him many times that I didn't need a ring, but I am in love with it. Not to be a big cheesebucket, but something really clicked on both of us when he put it on my finger. And he's been going around calling me 'wife', and we are being pretty ridiculous with each other. You can't see in the picture, but there is a tiny ruby on each side in the setting (my birthstone).
We have my uncle's wedding this weekend (the one I was talking about a few weeks ago), so we don't have any plans yet, but I will keep you guys in the loop.
I just want to say that I am very, very, very happy and to all of you guys who have heard me whine for years...I guess it all worked out in the end. With much love.
ETA: Oh, and for those of you I'm friends with on Facebook, I haven't said anything over there yet!
