[+]First of all,
TWoP is shutting down? I know this isn't a national tragedy or anything, but I've got to admit...I can see this decreasing my fannish participation. For a long time, that is the only site I've been able to view at work, so that changes some things for me. Plus, I really do enjoy a great many of the recaps, and it helps me to keep up with shows that I don't really care to watch, but am curious what's going on (The Vampire Diaries, and now Glee).
[+] Speaking of Glee, I tuned in again this week to watch a minute and a half of Puck and Quinn, and while that was delightful (and gave me a new appreciation for
Just Give Me A Reason), this episode really felt like a series finale? Like, I get that they had to have some sort of nostalgic reunion for the 100 episode 2-parter, but where the hell are they going to go now? I wish that were the last episode.
[+] I am enjoying the hell out of Reign, despite shipper preferences. This show has definitely found its groove (though it's also seemed to have a personality shift a couple of times in just sixteen episodes). But it has this operatic, campy quality now that really is reminding me of Spartacus (which you know is high praise from me). Anyway, once again shamelessly going off the discussion questions from the
mary-bash community:
This show has been pretty delightful to me for the past few episodes, after the angst of The Consummation- while I'm not necessarily enjoying Mary's attitude these days, I completely understand where it's coming from and it makes sense for her and I think will make sense in the greater context of the story. Also, Alan Van Sprang has really bang-on comic timing, which I have loved, even through his creepy madness.
I really loved the way Greer looked in this episode. I thought Kenna's 'wedding dress' looked odd, like she had been dragged out of bed (which I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case). Lola has looked...not good since being pregnant, and the shawls she's wearing don't help.
Sometimes I am reminded that Mary is fifteen and has been raised in a convent- for her to not see past Bash's posturing that he moved on with a pagan girl, and also that he is still completely in love with her.
Francis is so completely Henry's son, and this is so apparent in his possessiveness with Mary. Of course, he's not mad, but you can see where this narcissism comes from, from actually being handed anything you want for your entire life.
Yes, now Bash and Mary are married to other people- do you think that this bothers me? We all knew that was coming, and Mary has just been rocked, every time she's come in contact with Bash...I think we are definitely headed towards some sort of big declaration from her by this season's finale.
Now all the girls are married or engaged (I just want to cry for my poor Aylee). I don't think it's an entirely happy union for any of them. Pure misery for poor Kenna. Lots of confused issues for Mary. Lola- oh gosh, that's going to end badly, when she shows up as five months pregnant two weeks into her marriage. Greer might actually have it the best right now, because at least all the cards are on the table with Castleroy. But oh man, Leith looking back at her while heading off to however long in the army- mah bebehs.
I've heard theories that Henry is the Darkness, somehow, someway, and I could kind of see it, but I think it would have been noticed if he were out of the castle for such long periods of time. Still, I'm expecting for it to tie together somehow. (And also to tie back to Clarissa.)
All right, realistically what do we think Henry's 'darkness' is? It feels like cirrhosis, and that would make sense, but I'm still waiting for the jousting tournament. And that little Penelope, she is not long for this world. I look forward to Catherine's slow torture of her. I'm waiting for Diane to come back, because I think I would madly love them teaming up to 'save' Henry (for whatever reasons).
I'm really into Nostradamus and Olivia. I did not expect that, but I'm glad it's happening.
[+] I really loved Grey's last night, as probably the last Cristina/Owen fan on earth. And I like AU episode formats in general. But I just think that they have a really fascinating love story- they're the loves of each other's lives, but they'll destroy each other if they stay together.
[+] And I know this sounds weak, but Star-Crossed is actually pretty good you guys. I haven't done any proper recaps because I seem to have less time in the beginning of the week, and then I'm consumed by Reign towards the end, but I definitely recommend giving it a shot.
