Whatever's Meant To Be Will Work Out Perfectly

I had plans to get into this post to get into how fucking utterly delightful last week's Reign was, but then I caught wind of this:

I know I'm 31 years old and haven't watched Glee in like three years (and I thought that Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele hated Dianna Agron's guts), but if they end this terrible show with a Puck/Quinn wedding (hey why not), I will watch that shit.

Anyway...

[+] Everything about Mary in this episode seems...resigned. It's not being said explicitly, but I feel like she's just bored. She's *happy*...like I keep saying, she's been prepared for this her whole life and she's always told herself it was her duty and she was happy to do it. But a few months ago (in show time), when she was taking control of her own life with a man by her side who thought for himself (instead of being caught up in the cycle of expectations), it was a freedom she had never known.

And now with Lola's pregnancy, Mary knowing about it, and still agreeing to go on and play nice in her marriage...it really looks like forcing herself to go through the motions for the sake of Duty (there's that word again). I don't buy that she'll go along with it because she loves Francis so much, but more because as a queen, she has to ally herself with France and this is how it's done and she's been taught for so long to just grin and bear it, it's all she knows.

I know chemistry is subjective to everyone, but Adelaide just comes alive in scenes with Torrance. She's a Disney Princess with Francis, she's a complex woman-child with Bash. And I love the way he's been with her these last two episodes too, and their little argument in Royal Blood. He loves her, but he knows her faults, and he stands up to her, challenges her when she needs it and supports her without question when she needs that.

I'm not convinced that Francis didn't send the hit on Bash. He seems too careful about it all. And he manipulates Mary so easily, she really does turn a blind eye when it comes to him and it's frustrating, because she hasn't been like this in a long time, since the very beginning of the season. And his he killed a man for you...So did you, Dauphin!

I know I keep saying it, but can we seriously talk about how big of an asshole Francis is? I know I've been joking that everyone had forgotten Olivia and she was just wandering in the tunnels, but I really thought that the show had at least reasoned it out to itself that she left the castle quietly or something. He really honestly DID leave her to rot away in the tunnels and Clarissa attacked her or starved her or sacrificed her to the Blood Priests or whatever and Francis never even dropped by her room to check on her? Like, that is some Klaus Mikaelson shit right there (don't know if I'll have time to get into that). It's not even that, it's exactly like Henry who doesn't give a shit about whatever's not right in front of his face. And now Olivia's rabid, or possessed, or just has some severe PTSD and he still has no idea, or care.

*I'll admit, usually Mary is a better person than that too, to not even check to see if someone is alive but I'll give her a pass because Aylee died five minutes later and then she ran off with Bash and really, when would she have had the time?

Of course the stars of this episode were Catherine and Henry. It makes me want to find 5 Times Fic about them, about them being partners-in-crime, about how they might have worked together in the past. I love how they are both so obviously out-of-touch with doing manual labor but neither of them shies away from whatever needs to be done, even if it means literally getting down and dirty. And gosh, but can they forge a suicide note or what? I love Renaissance era 'evidence'.

Even being the B/M shipper I am, I can't hate on him for getting his Jon Snow-and-Ygritte on. Mary's turned on him for the moment and it seemed like him just taking comfort where he could then really falling for someone else.

[+] All I have to say about a Rebekah-less Originals is ohmigosh, Ethan's a WEREWOLF. For those of you who have vaguely seen me lose my shit over Ethan/Kristina (General Hospital) here and there...this is him. Guhhhh...And I like the idea of Davina and Oliver. I really like Davina, enough that it makes me *want* to be invested in the rest of it.

[+] As for Star-Crossed. I said the other day that I like this show but it has some problems, and the biggest problem, seriously, is that there are forty-seven different stories and sub-plots going on and it's the fifth episode. That's super ambitious and fast-paced, even for a CW show.

I don't know if other people feel this way, but I am totally happy to watch teenaged boys (that is, 30-year-old boys) fall all over themselves for Aimee Teegarden. That is a totally successful triangle in my opinion, but I know it won't hold water with many people for long.

[+] Now for the meme that never ends...

DAENERYS TARGARYEN & JON SNOW (A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE/GAME OF THRONES)

Here. That was my reaction after I finished watching the first season, more or less in a day. Ice + Fire, I think it kind of spells it out for us. I will admit that I am not the best kind of fan for ASoIaF/GoT (I never finished the books, but I wiki-ed everything and just flit around for fic) but I am definitely invested in Dany and Jon. They make sense and they BETTER be endgame.

This category is kind of a joke for me. But one of the biggest ones of the last few years was...

DIONA & GANNICUS (SPARTACUS)

They never *really* had scenes together, and she basically giggled over the mention of his name once, but my mind just ran away with them with my bigbang Come Away To The Water, that she had an enormous crush on him for her whole life, and then I have this other, sprawling AU universe in my head where everyone just lives on Vesuvius, and if Diona had survived and met up with the rest of the rebels, how she would have changed. I only wrote a smidgen for this world, but I have so much shored up in my head: Every Lesson Forms A New Scar

And, I must say, with the Spartacus reunion going on over on Arrow, Ollie and Sara are really like a reincarnated version of who Diona and Gannicus could have been:
