A Traveller From A Distant Land

12 Random Days in Winter blogs! The last one (for now, anyway)! At least I haven’t stretched it out to 2015, that’s something for me!

This one was from mammothluv who asked me about Reign crossovers (Reign, Reign, Reign, everything is REIGN), but I have a feeling that I know what she was *really* getting at, hee hee hee. But I do have a couple of ideas before I get to that.

The tricky thing about Reign is of course the historical context. You couldn’t just pop, like, Cristina Yang into this world and she’d get by (she would probably get by but would hate everything and everyone). So of course, we’ll be going on the assumption that every other fandom in the world is going to be a Renaissance era AU. So, in that case...

First up would be Gossip Girl, of course. I have jokingly called this show GG at the Renaissance Fair (and to be fair, I should say that I think I might have seen it called that online somewhere, in an article or something), but Blair and Serena would fit in pretty perfectly with the Ladies-in-Waiting. Serena would have a ball at court, and Blair would of course be useful to Mary’s political advantage. I could see Chuck sidling up to either Catherine or Diane (hedging his bets, where he might do well), or even throwing his hat in the ring with Nostradamus (who I believe has his own agenda, but that thought is for another time) and Nate would be a good friend to both Francis and Bash, and be a helpful peacekeeper. Dan would be useless in this world. Jenny would probably end up being one of the king’s young mistresses.

Then I would go for an easy one. Game of Thrones. The costumes are sort of ~just off, but I think that France would actually blend in pretty well as another kingdom in Westeros, just trying to gain control of itself and beat back its enemies, like everyone else on that show. There’s not much crossover between worlds on that show anyway, but I could see Daenerys trying to contact Mary once she was back in the west, as another young queen who is in a vulnerable position trying to protect her people. They would make for good allies. And then of course I would want Jon and Robb to make out with all the girls, can’t really pick who would suit best. Maybe Jon for Mary (though that would really get Bash’s goat) or Jon for...Greer! Or Kenna. Like I said, I can’t decide. And Robb for Aylee (she can still be alive in this version). Or maybe even Jaime for Aylee. (Or Jaime for Kenna.) And Joffrey for Lola. Kidding! (But I did think of the reason that Lola *really* irks me this morning, but as before, that’s a post for another time.)

And then (and I’ve actually been thinking this since the beginning), I would love to see a Reign/Spartacus crossover. Though of course this timing is mis-matched by a thousand-and-a-half years or so, I could see taking both worlds and plunking them down in *another* Westeros-esque world where people live and dress the way they do at the French court on one side of a great ocean, and a ‘Roman empire’ (with that kind of dress, custom, etc.) is dominating the land on the other side. So, in this world, Spartacus and his army have done well and defeated a great deal of the Roman army, but they need reinforcements and allies, so they are trying to make a treaty with France and/or Scotland. Gannicus, as a Celt, might remember that part of the world, and the LiW would surely go crazy over him. I could see him flirting outrageously with Lola, to get under her skin. And the ‘Aylee type’ seemed to always fall for him, and it usually prodded his protective streak. Actually, I could definitely see Ganncius/Kenna. Crixus was a Gaul, and I always head-canoned him as coming from what is now Provence, so there would be stuff with him remembering his childhood. And I would love to see what Mary and the girls thought of Mira and Naevia and the lady warriors.

Okay, but I have a feeling that what mammothluv might be getting at is WOULDN’T IT BE AMAZING IF FINOLA HUGHES WAS ON REIGN? And the answer to that is, of course, yes.

Finola was my original dreamcast for Marie de Guise. I am ecstatic with Amy Brenneman, but Finola was who I thought of first. I have this head canon that Marie took Mary to France when she was little, not to set up a marriage treaty between her daughter and the dauphin, but to make a play for Henry herself. Catherine and Diane ran her out of town, but all agreed to the marriage treaty as a compromise. The real Marie was absent for most of Mary’s life, but I love the idea that she did what she thought was best for her daughter’s safety, even if the best was sending her away. And Finola rocks that kind of role.

But then I thought of Finola cast as Catherine or Diane, and that would be fucking amazing too. All of these ladies who happily go to hell in a handbasket for their children.

Something is up with my photobucket, I wanted to pop some pretty gifs into this entry, but it’s not to be so.

Here, have some Mary and Bash, just because.
