Losing You Was Blue Like I'd Never Known

So. I spent the weekend in Florida, visiting my cousin and nephews. It was a lovely time. It was too short.

Okay, let's talk about tv! Specifically the two shows that the history geek in me is just *bathing* in, these past few days.

The night before I left, I finally got around to starting Hell On Wheels, which I have KNOWN I have wanted to watch for so long, and have KNOWN that I was going to love it. And I do. I'm only up through A New Birth of Freedom, but I just adore everything about it. I very much so ship Lily Bell and Joseph Blackmoon, though I get the feeling I'm supposed to be shipping Lily with Cullen Bohansson. I never do things the way I'm supposed to though, right?

Speaking of never seeing things the way I'm supposed to...I watched the first season of Downton Abbey on both plane rides and some in-between downtime.

I just don't understand the way I see things, versus the way others see them (perhaps some controversial opinions within the cut...)

Mary and Matthew, I just...I find I have even less use for them, the second time around. Nothing about them sells me, not their story, not their 'chemistry'...and this is not a dig at Michelle Dockery and Dan Stevens, both of whom I find perfectly competent, I'm just 100% not sold. The only thing I can say for them, is that I'm happy they're finally together, so that it can stop being all about *getting* them together.

And then there's Mary and Edith. To me, there is a very, VERY close comparison with Mary, Edith and Sybil against Scarlett, Suellen and Carreen O'Hara (Sybil and Carreen are the least alike, though I can still see certain similarities in the way they seem to be the peacekeeper sisters). I get that sisters are sisters, and squabble, and they are spoiled little rich girls with very little to do during the day, but Mary is just flat-out, unlikably mean to her sister, and in my opinion, what Edith did to Mary is completely and forever unforgivable. In fact, I'd kind of forgotten about it. And along with these GWTW comparisons, Anthony Stralin is very Frank Kennedy-ish, and Matthew has Ashley Wilkes written all over him. (Carlisle as Rhett and Lavinia as Melanie, but I haven't even gotten there yet, and I could go on all day.)

I do get that they all grow up quite a bit during the war, and I did seem to like them all when the show picked back up a couple of weeks ago, so I'll get through the rest.

This isn't to say that I don't enjoy the show- I do, very much. I ADORE Sybil, and still ship Sybil and Branson. Now, THEY just sell me, on everything, the issues they face as a couple, their chemistry is to DIE for, but these are all just subjective of course.

And probably most people consider this to be a waste of time, but I am endlessly fascinated when we get a talking head scene between Carson and Mrs. Hughes (usually, or someone else on the staff) about the way things were done, and how a footman should NEVER be taller than 6'1", or a maid should NEVER be waiting at table, and the way everyone freaks out when anyone suggests otherwise.

Anyway, none of this is news, I suppose...

Speaking of which, does anyone have the link for Sunday's episode?

ETA: Oh! I LOVE Red, my girl Taylor is *my girl* again!!
