“Wait, aren’t you going to let me read for the role?”

Santana has to catch herself, pull back that little note of begging in her voice. Get it together, San.

The producer barely looks up. “You aren’t right for this girl- we’ll let you know about the dancer part. Next!” He’s somehow managed to look at her and not even see her, he’s already onto the next girl, but this is the first audition she’s had booked in months. She jumps at the door, slamming it shut before the next girl can come in. She saw her in hallway, basically a mirror image of herself, dark, sultry, with a skirt that’s too short and a top that’s too tight.

She turns back around, “Mr. Echolls, if you just give me a few minutes of your time, I think-”

He laughs, settling back in his chair. “No one’s going to pay you to think, Rosita.”

She summons all of her effort to not leap across the room and bash his head into the desk. “It’s Santana.”

“Whatever,” he shrugs. “Look, frankly I’m looking for a blonde.”

She bites her lip to keep from smiling at the irony. Aren’t we all. “So...think outside the box. Give five minutes to try something unexpected.”

He’s paused for a second, and she knows this second is precious. Logan Echolls can make or break your career, and if she screws this up- and there’s a good chance that she is doing just that- he’ll never see her again.

He tosses his pen on the desk, and folds his hands behind his head, leaning back. “Five minutes,” he says, flatly.

Santana smiles. You got this, San. You lived it. You’ll show them all.
