So...on my second day of 'homerest', per doctor's orders. Today is kind of a 'milking-it' day, but there's absolutely nothing going on this week, and hey, tomorrow's my birthday, so...why not. I'm certainly not saving lives or changing the world in there.
Anyway...
So, Harry Potter wasn't to me what it was for many of you. I loved it to bits, but it didn't define my childhood. I read the whole series in one whack when I was 26, I didn't spend years in between books biting my nails over how it would all turn out in the end, I always vaguely knew about an 'epilogue'. I've only seen the past three movies (counting DH2) in the theatre. I don't own any of the movies (because I figure there will be some special boxset coming out around Christmas that I wanted to wait out for- likely it will be very overpriced).
I did/do love this series and these characters to bits though, and enjoyed my time with it. And with that I bring you...
*in no particular order
~"Are you all right, Freddie?" "Yeah. You?" "Yeah."
~McGonagall stepping out between Harry and Snape.
~When Nagini lunged at Ron and Hermione, Ron fell back and pulled Hermione into his chest, cradling her. (That got me more than the kiss.)
~"NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH." It just never gets old.
~McGonagall calling down the stone soldiers. I'd really been looking forward to that since the book. And in general the teachers and the Order securing the castle.
~The look on Hagrid's face as he was carrying Harry back from the forest, that was some superb acting from Robbie Coltrane. It hit me immediately that this was the man who'd carried him to safety when he was a baby, and he was holding him just as tenderly now.
~Helena Bonham Carter-as Hermione-as Bellatrix. Her facial expressions were spot-on perfect.
~Alan Rickman's acting in The Prince's Tale, particularly his inflection in the line, "You've been raising him like a pig for slaughter?" Also the kids who played Lily and Sev were adorable.
~Hermione as a little mother. For some reason, even though Emma Watson was clearly about five years older than her 'daughter', she seemed to pull off the *aged nineteen years* bit the best.
~"I have always found 'words' to be our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of inflicting and remedying great injury." I thought that was just such a great legacy and shoutout to JKR.
Thoroughly enjoyed this week's True Blood. KRUKUDILLIRRRRRR!!!!!
For those of you who missed it, Brenda Barrett, in her final hour, gave Sonny Corinthos the set-down that's been like eleven years in the making:
"The truth is that you used to stand for something, and now you stand for nothing. And why? You decided to give everything up for that bitch." And then, given less time, but delivered no less magnificently, Jax to Carly:
"I'd ask AJ, but he's dead." I've been slacking with posting the Ethan/Kristina clips, because while they've been lovely and sparkly, they haven't had an amazing moment like that fight on the docks they had two weeks ago. Also, I just cannot stomach the version of Kristina who has a blind spot for her father (and don't even get me started on thinking Carly is 'cool')...We are in our last week of Guza, let me hope that GW has more of that coming our way. In any case...
