Time for a Friday night meme...
Ganked from
fromiftowhen:
Elaborate on your default icon.
~Ethan and Kristina, the stars of my Big Bang fic, from
one of my very favorite scenes of theirs from last summer. This icon was made by
silentwilight. I'm keeping it up (or if I find another E/K icon that I love) for inspiration until this darn fic is finished. I love this particular angle, because of the way he's looking at her, while she's distracted with something else.
Ever have a near-death experience?
~I was in one pretty bad car accident, but I wasn't hurt at all (nobody was, it was between me and a tree). I wasn't drunk driving (/disclaimer). I skidded on a patch of wet leaves right after I got my license, and totaled my first car.
Name an obvious quality you have.
~I'm horribly goofy, and I'm a total 'Captain Obvious'. Like, one of the first things people pick up when they're starting to get to know me is that I'm like an adult Amelia Bedelia.
What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?
Story (Maroon 5). In all honesty, this is probably because I'm copying and pasting this from
fromiftowhen's page, and she named an M5 song for this question (my mind associates in really obvious ways/Marshall Eriksen), and this one has been my favorite from them, as of late. It *really* reminded me of Dan and Blair (Gossip Girl) this year.
Any celeb you would marry?
~Jason Segel! He is exactly the kind of guy I'm looking for! And my attachment to him isn't a result of shipping him with someone else, so...
Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity?
~Yes. Several people, over the past ten years, have said Britney Spears. At all stages of her various looks. This makes absolutely no sense to me.
A recent picture of me (and my brother)
Do you wear a watch? What kind?
~Not regularly.
Do you have anything pierced?
~I got my ears pierced when I was a baby, but for some reason, a few years ago, earrings started to hurt my ears so I only wear them when I'm getting really dressed up now. I pierced my belly button when I was fifteen (my dad took me- we're a weird family) but took that piercing out when I was twenty because it gave me scarlet fever.
Do you have any tattoos?
~No. I'd like to get
this though, on the instep of my right foot. I'd work with the tattoo artist to spruce it up a bit. Me and my mom want to go together. (She already has an ENORMOUS tattoo of a purple dolphin on her calf. I told her that when/if I get married, even if it's in the dead heat of the summer, she has to wear slacks.)
Do you like to shop?
~For what? I can get lost in Border's or Whole Foods for hours on end. Clothes shopping...Here's the deal. I love to have nice things, but I hate to shop for them.
What was the last thing you paid for with your credit card?
~Hmmm....Some clothes before going away to Austria, I think.
Do you like redheads?
~No. I'm wicked racist against gingers. Just kidding! I guess I don't fetishize them either though (?)
Do you know any twins?
~My mom's best friend has identical twin boys (well...they're nearly 40 now, and both fathers themselves). At one of the kids' birthday parties last year, someone brought little twin girls (also identical), about 4 or 5 years old, and they were fascinated to see these two big men who (in a way) were just like them. There were also a handful of fraternal twins I went to school with.
Do you have any weird relatives?
~My gosh, we're a nightmare family.
What was the last movie you watched?
~I watched Sex & The City 2 when it was on HBO I think Tuesday night. That movie is a big FAIL, and not in a Failtastic! kind of way, either. The last movie I saw in the theatre was Midnight In Paris, which is a very strong Yuletide contender for me, as of right now.
What was the last book you read?
~The last book I finished was Once An Angel, which is an old favorite that I wanted to read to ramp up for Het BB. I'm flipping through Peter Pan, which is the loose inspiration for my BB- I forgot how very psychologically fucked this book is.
Is there such a thing as love at first sight, or it is more likely to be "lust at first sight"?
~I think there might be something in between, like 'chemistry at first sight'. Where there's that genuine possibility, because I have seen a few couples go from first meeting to marriage (or close on their way there), and I think there's something that's definitely a big step above just thinking someone's cute or whatever. Of course you can't know everything about them at first sight, but there is a difference when someone is going to be something real. I think. So I've heard.
What's your favorite book?
~Peter Pan. It's been a good few years since I've read it, so I'm really enjoying it.
When was the last time you visited the street where you first lived?
~Drove by it a couple of months ago, but I don't know if we ever actually got out of the car and looked at the house.
When was the last time you googled your own name?
~A few weeks ago, I think. I needed to make sure none of my fannish stuff was popping up.
What was/is your favorite subject at school?
~I loved my Creative Writing class in college. In high school, it was my junior year English class.
What was is your least favorite subject at school?
~All the sciences. I remember junior year, I was doing really horribly at chemistry, and in prep for our big end-of-quarter exam, I went after school for weeks for extra help, and studied my ass off, and my mom even let me take the morning of the exam off from school so I could do the extra studying. I got a D+. I can honestly say that was the first and last time I made any effort in high school.
Do you like having your photograph taken?
~No. I pull people in front of me. Unless I'm really drunk, and then I'm a camera bandit. (I steal people's cameras when they're not looking and do that hold-it-up-in-front-of-yourself self-portrait thing. Even strangers. Hi! That was me!)
What time were you born?
~3:10 am, Tuesday, July 20, 1982.
Have you ever killed your own dinner?
~No. When I was like 7 or 8, we went to a family friend's lakehouse for a weekend, and her dad took us fishing and I think they cooked the fish but I don't remember if I actually caught anything (probably not) and I didn't eat fish when I was a kid.
Most embarrassing moment?
~It takes a lot. I'm super clumsy, so I never get embarrassed by tripping or anything like that. I also have minimum-to-zero modesty, so I don't get tweaked out if a boy walks in on me changing or something. One thing that really sticks out in my head is when I was a senior in college, I made out with a guitarist for a local band. And then I arranged for them to come play at my school and I just really embarrassed myself when he was there because it was so very obvious that I was a kid, and I had been pretty cool the last time I saw him. I still cringe when I think about that night.
How long have you been living at your current residence?
~October 16, 2009 is the first time I slept here.
What phobias do you have?
~Strange things. Really strange things. I'm afraid of falling head-first down concrete steps and landing on my TMG joint with my mouth open. I'm afraid to use an iron because I'm afraid I'm going to burn my face. (Seriously, everything I buy is jerzee cotton.) I'm always afraid, in the middle of the night if I have to go downstairs to use the bathroom, that someone is right outside the door. (Logical question people ask me, so why don't you just keep the door closed? I *have* to check it. And looking through the peephole isn't enough, because I always feel like someone is crouching below it. Wow...this shit is getting crazy and I'm nowhere near done. I hate someone walking behind me, close enough to hear their footsteps, or even standing behind me. (You should see me at an ATM.) I'm afraid of people coming up to me on the T and licking my face.
What's your ideal breakfast?
~Hangover breakfast? I love corned beef hash, though I know perfectly well how disgusting it is, and I only let myself have it like once a year.
This is my Friday Night Omelette, which I haven't made in a while. More days than not though, it's a Dunkie's Medium Iced w/ Skim & Melted Sugar.
Why do you blog?
~Oh gosh, the tough question! Well, it's been...about six years now. Before I did this, I kept a regular old composition book journal, and there is something nice about having this immediate 'feedback' on your thoughts (sometimes...) But overall, I'm pretty sure that this will be part of my life.
First crush?
~In pre-school, my first boyfriend's name was Patrick. I see him around the Financial District all the time, and not sure if he remembers me or not. He's always in pristine suits and I dress like a grown-up Punky Brewster. (Except not grown-up. At all.)
First heartbreak?
~In a romantic sense? When my first boyfriend broke up with me, I was really, really heartbroken. I wish I'd had Taylor Swift in my life when I was fifteen. He's married now, and when I saw that on Facebook a few years ago, I was shocked that I didn't feel anything, that I *was* completely over it. Truth be told, I don't think he's anyone I'd be interested in now. But I was so, so madly in love with him at fourteen (and fifteen, and sixteen, and seventeen...) I remember I saw him at a party when I was nineteen, and though it wasn't quite as fresh then, I remember we spent the whole night talking, and I thought maybe we would pick something back up, or he might just call every now and then and we might build towards being friends, but we didn't, and I had another little mini heartbreak all over again.
Do you have nightmares frequently?
~Not really. I used to have very vivid Holocaust dreams. A very common theme in my nightmares is that I'm just in a building, and I can't leave, and someone is chasing me. But not, like, sprinting down the hallways, just kind of calmly following me from room to room and we're both making polite conversation, but this person (who is never anyone specific) is quite clearly not going to let me leave, and if I get impolite, so will he/she. Sometimes there's a bunch of kids that I'm supposed to be watching over, which is adding to my stress level.
Which TV character could you be friends with?
~Tyra Collette. Lexie Grey. April Kepner. (This isn't to say that these are the only people/characters I like from these shows, but this is who would probably want to hang out with me and vice versa.)
What did you watch on TV last night?
~I caught up on All My Children. (WHO IS THIS MAYA PERSON? WHO IS HITTING HER? WHOSE BABY IS THAT? HOW LONG HAS ANGIE BEEN BLIND?)
Scary movies or happy endings?
~I don't like scary movies, but I don't really know what precludes them from having happy endings.
