Oh yes! YOU WILL! GET READY BECAUSE IT IS THE MOST AMAZING TELEVISION SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION EVER I SAID EVER.
And I'm not even *a little bit* exaggerating, I tell you that.

This is the thing I have been stressing to people for four years, since the show started. It is *not* about football. It is about LIFE, and if you have LIFE in Australia (hee...as I get the feeling you do), trust me, it will translate.
I can already tell you that my favourite pairing is a non-canon one... why do I always do this to myself?!!! Tim/Julie. Well, maybe I should clarify... FIC Tim/Julie... And I'm pretty sure I'm going to think TK is very lovely to look at
^_^ I will just smile and wait, and see what you have to say in a month's time. (TK is quite pretty, have you seen a picture of him? It's just that the rest of the cast is JUST as aesthetically pleasing, so I never got why TK was tagged as the Hot One. Seriously. It's a ridiculously pretty show.)

As for FNL being about 'life' and us having that here in Australia, well, yes. This is true. But we're also a strange breed when it comes to sports (and particularly American sports!). We tend to think that if we don't play it then it must be shit. And as much as this show is also about life, the premise is 100% NFL related. I've read the re-caps, it IS about football. A lot. Even the stuff that isn't about football is related back to being about football. And yeah, I'm fairly confident in my opinion that it would not be a successful show here (hence the fact that it is one of the very few American dramas never to air here). I've lived in that part of the world, and I'm a television whore. I am not your typical Aussie viewer!
I have seen picutres of the whole cast so I should probably clarify... TK IS very lovely to look at... and I honestly wasn't attracted to ANY of the other males... Do you hate me already?

Give it a whirl, pictures don't always really show the way these people light up with each other...You'll see. That's all I can say.

Football is the metaphor for small town life. Maybe I shouldn't have spoken so soon, because the show is probably very specific to the American small town experience, but I think the family, the realtionships, the pain, the heartache, the joy, the LIFE will definitely translate. But seriously, anyone who watches the show will tell you it's not a football show...it's not even as much of a football show as Grey's is a hospital show (and you know how very seriously they take their medical cases over there).

You'll see. That's all I can say. Well, like I said, I've already read the re-caps of every episode, so it's not like I'm going in blind. I do know everything that has happened and already have opinions on the characters/storylines/relationships etc... so it's not like it will be completely new to me...
We must discuss this again in December! Haha!

Okay, here goes...
EDITED: Because I have some more time... and a half an hour car trip during which to solidify my responses (clearly these are v. important questions!)
Favourite Character? Tyra, Tim and Julie.
I think I love Tyra because she's so insanely different to me in the obvious ways but so LIKE me in ways that not so obvious... and I realise that is a ridiculously confusing answer but... ha! There you have it!
Tim because, and I'm not even gonna lie and try to make up something less superficial, I see so many parallels between him now and Alex at the same age... And I am a complete SUCKER for sexy boys with deep seated emotional issues! Haha!
Julie because, unlike Tyra, she is like me in pretty much all the ways that count! Obvious and not so obvious!
Least Favourite Character? I vascillate between Tami (you'll hate me for that, I know!), and Jason... The bit part characters I didn't get invested enough in via the re-caps to actually be bothered disliking... Tami always comes across as holier than thou in the re-caps and I can't stand that kind of character... She's the one character for whom I'm almost certain my opinion will change when I watch the actual episodes...
As for Jason? Yeah. Just not interested. I guess it's not that I dislike him as such, more that I'm ambivalent towards him.
Prettiest Character? Julie. Hands down.
Character I wanna marry? NONE OF THEM!!! Haha! If I HAD to choose, then Julie?! Or Lila?!
Favourite Pairing? Tim/Julie... I know it's not canon...! Favourite canon pairing? Tim/Lila. Maybe it's more accurate to say that Tim/Julie is my favourite fic pairing and Tim/Lila is my favourite re-cap pairing!
Favourite Episode? Hmm, this is harder because I only have re-caps to go, but the re-cap that made me the most hmmm... the most 'something'!! would probably be... (oddly!!!)
"Stay" and "Underdogs". Like, if I was told I could only choose two episodes to watch ever, those two would be it.
Unpopular opinion? I do not care one iota for the Coach/Tami relationship. Again, I don't dislike it, but I also don't think it's the most amazing thing I've ever read... It just is what it is and it's not really all that compelling to me.
Also, not liking Tami and Jason? They're probably unpopular decisions? Yes?

Hmm... YEAH! Tim and Billy and ... Tim getting out of jail? Or... Lila leaving? Or... post Jason's accident. Or... post Tim realises their dad really is a dead beat. Just... something with dysfunctional brotherly bonding in it!

Word got around town sort of slowly. It was Thanksgiving weekend, and everyone was being fat and lazy, and it was Wednesday (four whole days later) when Becky rang his doorbell, waking Stevie up in the process.
The baby was red-faced and squalling against his chest when he opened the door to find her, frizzy-haired and splotchy-eyed on the other side. “Is it true?” She asked, in that melodramatic way of hers.
This was the fourth time he’d had to do this, and the first time he’d had to do this in person. First call was to Jason, and then Coach Taylor had called him. He didn’t know what to do about Lyla, so he’d handed the phone to Mindy, who’d mouthed I’m going to murder you even as she took the receiver.
“Yeah, yeah, Becks, it’s true,” Billy answered, rubbing little circles on Stevie’s back to quiet his sobs. He held the door open with one arm. “You wanna come in?”
She shook her head, wrapping her slim arms around herself, hugging her gray sweatshirt- Timmy’s JV sweatshirt, Billy realized. “No, no, thanks, Billy, I’ll be fine,” and she had already turned back to her car, but he could hear the full on gasping cry coming on in her voice and she was already down the street before he could see her face crumple.
Billy walked back in the house with Stevie, who was back asleep and drooling, and sat down at the coffee table. He wrote out the check for $623 for Timmy’s mortgage.
