No one will notice if I'm lj-ing a little, doo doo doo. Doing that 5 Things meme again, because it’s so fun.

FNL
Man, do I love this show. Luuuuuuuurve it. And I’m always trying to get other people to watch it, because I know they’ll love it as much as I do, if they’ll just get through the first two episodes. What I said to one of my friends the other night, “It’s not, like One Tree Hill-ish, with all these Crazy Nanny Carrie storylines, or huge things happening. It’s like, you’re wondering if this sixteen-year-old kid is going to get the guts to talk to a girl he really likes and you want to die over it.” And you *do*.
Angst (LOL)
lapiccolina and I just sort of recently got acquainted, though it seems we’ve been in the same General Hospital circles for years. You might have liked some of my Veronica Mars fic, honey, I let characters like Piz and Weevil get a little goofy now and then. But the ‘fandom’ we’re most connected through is the TNG-verse, and I can’t help it, the way I write, the way I think, I love learning more and more about these characters and I think the moments that really define them are the harder times, with parents, lovers, siblings.
empressearwig is better with the happier times, but that’s just not where my mind goes.
Lisa Kleypas (I just read Sugar Daddy as my introduction to her and I like!)
I adore LK! Genre fiction is a mostly ignored fandom, and it’s a shame because there are some wonderful writers here and she is one of them. And she’s gotten better with time. I feel like her earlier books are really snapshots. The central couple existed in a bubble and it was a *very* close look at them, but she’s really grown into rich, layered casts as she’s matured as a writer. Her contemporary novels are a little different than her historicals, but there is still that great LK feel. I’m looking forward to the third in her ‘Texas’ series. (LOL, you should too!)
Shortness (You're my fellow shorty!)
I love being short, lol! I’m an even five feet tall, and it’s such a part of my personality. I’ve been this height since I was ten, when I was one of the tallest girls in my grade (people thought I would end up being like six feet tall). Short guys are a great untapped resource- there’s so many that are cute and great guys, but girls will overlook them because they’re too short for them to wear heels next to. Strangely enough, I’m sort of nervous and shy around really tall guys (6’ and up).
Luna/George (where did you come up with this? Lol)
Where *did* I come up with this? Well, they’re not the strangest of my ‘made up pairings’. I wasn’t the first person who thought of it, there was already a fairly active community and a decent amount of fic out when I went looking. But they were ‘made up’ in the sense that I hadn’t seen any of that when I first got my ideas for them. By the end of the series, George had become my favorite twin, just a hair ahead of Fred, and I thought to myself of who could pull him out of the despair he surely sunk into when he lost his other half. She would have to be a very special girl, who could show him the world in a different way. And Luna, who I also grew to like very much (and I didn’t think I would at first, but she had me completely won over by the end of Order of the Phoenix) deserved some happiness, deserved someone to love her. George has a healthy taste for the bizarre, and I think he’d be less likely to laugh at her eccentricities and there’s also a kindness to him that’s absent in some of his brothers, and a lot of other boys. Here’s a little excerpt from the fic I’m working on about them:
“So…I think I would like to kiss a boy,” she continued, her voice even quieter, and smaller than before. “I would just like it to be…normal.” He swallowed hard. "Do you think we could...Could I kiss you, and then...do nothing?" George's eyes felt like they might bug out of his head. "I mean...I don't think I'd want to do more than that."
empressearwig gave me:
Romance Novels
I think I did this one the last time I did this meme, so I’m going to talk about my favorite romance novel, and really, probably in the top of all time. Once An Angel by Teresa Medeiros isn’t all that well known for some reason, but lord is it amazing. It broke all the rules and wrote its own. Justin, the hero is truly one of a kind; masculine, sensitive, intelligent, slightly unhinged. And Emily, the heroine, doesn’t fall into any of the usual clichés that you see nowadays so often. Sadly, TM’s later efforts seem to lack inspiration. But this one is a keeper.
'Ships That Have No Basis In Canon
I think the question is what’s up with my fascination with them and why can’t I ever seem to like just a regular, plain old couple? Well, there’s two sides to this…well, three I guess. There’s ‘ships that are heavily hinted at, heaped with subtext (Veronica/Weevil), there are ships that had one fleeting moment of chemistry, where it looked like the worlds were about to collide in the most wonderful way but never did (Maxie/Leo), there are ships that really have no canon bearing, two characters who have never shared scenes, but something about them just grabs me and never lets go (Julie/Santiago). In the case of the last, it was about loving a character, and just thinking about who he might make sense with, and the more I thought about those two, the more they got a hold on me. In the case of Maxie/Leo, they shared one of the most romantic scenes I’ve ever seen, and it was written without any hint of romance, and acted with impeccable kindness and compassion but it just made sense. A girl who’d had a ‘broken heart’ all of her life, falling in love with a cardiologist? How perfect would it have been?
Primetime Shows About Teenagers
Ah yes, the pleasure that is becoming more ‘guilty’ by the day. I guess I am getting a little old for, say, Gossip Girl, but One Tree Hill seems to be growing up with me. Friday Night Lights is more about families, and really, it’s freakin’ literature.
General Hospital The Next Generation
Honestly? It’s my favoritest fandom right now. You should be very proud of yourself for that. One day, you were just trying to give Patrick and Robin some light, happy moments with their new daughter, and before I knew it, I had dove in whole-heartedly, helping ‘create’ characters, thinking about the way some of the babies on the show might grow up, especially if they were given a truly soapy environment, with complex relationships between their parents, their siblings, and most of all- with each other.
One Tree Hill
I was late to this fandom. I saw one episode during season 2 with a friend (the episode where Jake was in jail and he and Peyton touched their hands through the glass- sigh). I loved that couple, but I was all into The OC and didn’t want to catch up on a show right then and there. And then later, I saw the season 3 finale, with the car going off the bridge and Haley screaming for her husband into the water, and I just had to catch up, so I netflixed all three seasons and then watched very half-heartedly in season 4, until the episode where Haley got into the car accident. That show does a hospital montage like nobody’s business. (So-called General Hospital should be taking notes.) And by the end of the season, I was hooked. My heart was swollen during the finale, and I’ve been utterly hooked these last two seasons- I think Schwann has finally found his groove.
