I've been doing a prospect mailer all day, literally the most tedious work in the entire world. My eyes are crossing from boredom.
So, let's talk a little Harry Potter then, shall we?
And also, I missed a recap post after Goblet of Fire (don't think anyone really missed it too much, though, lol).
You guys, I really love these books so much. I am going to be *so* sad when it's all over (I'm going to guess probably around the end of March).
Of course, I had my first real slam in the gut at the end of GoF with Cedric's death. Oh, Edward Cullen. I do not relish seeing that on film (I'm expecting it from Netflix probably Friday).
I've been gingerly making my way through meta and fic, and trying to skim a page before I really read, just to make sure I don't see HBP or DH spoilers, but it's been hard. One thing I read just the other day and I've been thinking about is that I do think it's kind of curious that Hermione isn't the main character, that she isn't "the girl who lived". Maybe I'm more than a little biased because I fell in love with the character so much, and while I'm still rooting for Ron/Hermione in the books (finally on a winning team there), devouring Draco/Hermione fic like mad, and growing more and more fascinated with the idea of Severus/Hermione, I have *such* a soft spot for Viktor Krum, and him being the first boy to see her for the wonderful, beautiful girl she is. I think I heard that he doesn't come to a great end. I don't want to know (I'm already too spoiled for my own good.)
And I know that they're not the most popular, but Harry and Cho are so. damn. cute. And I'm such a sucker for interracial. And he's so awkward and weird about her, and it's just freakin' adorable. Like, Matt/Julie levels of cute. I have a feeling he's going to end up with Ginny Weasley out of popular demand, and while I really do love all the Weasleys (even Percy, I'll get to that in a second) I really am not looking forward to that happening.
Harry is getting a little bit of 'Buffy Syndrome'- you know "It's all about me and nobody else!" which is excusable with Harry and Buffy because they're, you know, saving the world. Less excusable with, say, Carly Corinthos.
Oh, the Weasleys are so great, such a wonderful family. The twins?
rocketgirl13, you were right. I couldn't possibly love them any more. And Bill and Charlie are such cool older brothers, and Arthur and Molly.... One of my very favorite scenes so far is in GoF when Arthur showed up with Ron and the twins at the Dursleys to pick up Harry for the Quidditch World Cup, and at first he's so excited to be in a Muggle house but he just gets disgusted with Uncle Vernon and the way he treats the boy he's raised, a boy who Arthur holds in pretty high esteem.
Okay, so Percy....Man, I just feel bad for him. And I'm worried for him. Because I'm pretty sure, at the end of Deathly Hallows, JKR will more or less set things right with the world, and I just....he was raised by good people, and I'm sure he's good at his core, and I worry about how he's being (will be) destroyed.
Okay, I...do not like Sirius. At all. And I think he paints a bad picture of how James might have been, back in the day. And no, it's not because they were mean to Severus, who is quickly becoming my favorite, he's just a prat. I really have nothing good to say about him. He was okay in the end of Prisoner of Azkaban, but I just feel like it all came on too quick, Harry loved him way too quick, and I...am always very wary of that. Plus, it seems like he does want to live through Harry in a sense, or reincarnate James through Harry and that's just not fair.
Plus, he's mean to Severus. Me no like.
Okay, I'll check in in another while....
Thoughts?
