The harder you try to hold on to it, to keep it, to be it, the harder it becomes. You try, it evades, resists, puts its proverbial foot down and refuses to be had.
Chase it all you'd like, over the edge, into the darkness and back again, but it's never any use.
Maybe it will allow you just within arms length -- your fingers will brush against it, you'll nearly be able to taste it -- but it'll slip through your hands.
Ever elusive.
And you'll still chase. On and on.
Those who think they've caught it, the ones who believe they're in control, are only kidding themselves; it doesn't exist. Not for the likes of us, anyway. Control, the real deal, belongs to something greater than us -- any of us.
We're not meant to have it and we probably won't ever be.
But we'll still chase it, despite the fact.
We have to.
It's human nature.
