things and stuff

So the apartment hunt is going on still. We looked at a few more places last weekend. There is one that is the best price in the area and a good $2000 less than most places we have been looking at. I have lived there before and it was alright. There were some downsides, as there are in any place, but some of the upsides may outnumber those. One of those upsides being the price!

When I lived there before, parking was bordering on a nightmare depending on when one got home. Since I tend to be the last one in for the night in most living situations, it usually meant a horrible time trying to find a place to park and getting super frustrated. The new management has changed some of the rules though and it sounds far more manageable. There is a limit to two cars per apartment, so with two of us that works out alright. We would have one assigned spot, and the rest is still a free-for-all, but when you don't have to contend with the apartment full of four adults who all have cars then it seems a bit better. They also have guest passes available now, where there used to be no guest parking at all.. well, except for the 12 spots outside the gate. :P

There are no washer dryer hook-ups, but some units may have laundry machines in them. The downside there is that they occupy the closet of one of the bedrooms... which means one of us has to enter the the other's room to do laundry. The complex has laundry rooms all over with pretty okay machines in them though, and a way to pay by credit card or fill up a laundry card or something so you don't have to worry about quarters. Collecting quarters is a pain!

There is no garage, but both rooms are pretty big and the closets are large with built in shelves. The pantry in the kitchen is super deep and large too. Each room has its own bathroom (with a bathtub!) which is good.. and one of the "must haves" on our list. It's right next to Saddleback College so the occupants are mostly college kids I imagine, so there shouldn't be a problem with having people over for RockBand or whatever.

There was another place I really liked that we looked at a few weeks ago, but they are almost $1700 and that's just too much for me. The rooms were really nice size though, each had its own bathroom but only the "master" bedroom has the bathtub and I didn't think I could afford the bigger room in a situation where the rent is so high. The parking wasn't that great there either, but I think there were ways around it. They have a street not too far away that cars can park on without a permit or anything.

I am really leaning toward the cheap place even with those downsides just because I feel like I can definitely afford it. Right now there is nothing available when our lease is up though, which is a bit nerve wracking. I have been checking the availability section of their website every day though and I let the lady at the office know I am pretty interested. I really hope one comes available and that the price doesn't go up! I think I am gonna push for that place..

I hope I am not just pushing for it out of some kind of sense of nostalgia for the good memories I have there. It seems like it makes the most financial sense.... :)
