so what's been new on this side of the country?
not that much. our only PC's laptop hard drive died today after i proceeded to restart the computer after yet another round of updates. man windows really sucks major balls. i'm def glad i made the jump onto OS X pretty early on in the game, yet not so early as to be turned off by it.
today i also got a postcard from ucb's study abroad program with a picture of moscow on the front and a caption saying "You don't see this every day...but you could." Heh, they should check who they send these things to. and apparently they send these out of santa barbara? um what?
the other day i came across another one of these california oddities. it's called apartment managers aka superintendents. here's what happened: i had left my car at the dealer's to get looked at, and gave them my entire keychain. this obviously included my house keys, something i realized only after i drove into the garage (on my mom's car) and decided to check our mail. so i go to the super's apartment, and knock. tell her that i'm locked out, and she gives me this whole speech about how she's doing it only this one time and won't ever do it again. then she launches this line: i'm not a doorman, i'm an apartment manager. i kept quiet, but what i really wanted to tell her was, um, yeah...and as apartment manager, one of your duties is to unlock the door for me if i'm locked out. seriously, where did she get this? this woman, to be honest, doesn't do jack shit, and gets a free apartment and a salary. she maintains a second job. she doesn't do ANY fix-up work; she calls in other people to do the job. not only that, but these repair people apparently come around only something like once a month, so if you want something fixed right now, tough luck.
apartment manager? wtf does she think that means anyway? it would be interesting to send her up to cardinal hill and see how she likes it - complete with painting, installing new appliances, and fixing most shit on her own. and unlocking doors.
good christ.
and in a somewhat similar development, i got a nice little letter from cal housing telling me that i was charged $50 for a hole drilled in right closet wall. um, ok. first off, i had no way of physically doing this. second, i have 20 days to respond, but it takes a whopping 8 days for the letter to traverse 300 miles. third, is right facing the window, or facing the hallway? is it the right closet or the right wall? and if it's on the wall between the closets, why am I getting charged for it? answers to all these questions and more i hope to find tomorrow. wish me luck.
and lastly, a week from now, i will be on a plane taking me to new jersey. ah. i hope that my trip will turn out good. i'm seriously getting tired of california and i really want to find out if nj is better or if i'm just being nostalgic. because if it's better, i have a feeling i won't stay here much longer after school is over. no joke.
