I know I don't post much but the food last night at Pata Negra was freakin' amazing and so I gotta post about it. It's not a great review in that I haven't described the quirkiness of the restaurant, or the wicked spanish wines and stuff like that, but I'm just trying to remember all the food I ate :P
Wade and I got there and stared with bewilderment at the menu, since we don't speak any spanish at all, before settling on the chef's pick ($70 per person) to eliminate the problem of our ignorance :P Best choice ever!
The food came out in five stages, which I shall now detail:
First stage
- Green, kalamata and tiny olives; delicious, but heavily salted, which didn't go with the light and fruity white wine we were drinking. And besides they were just olives, compared with:
- Herb baked Turkish bread with spiced babaganoush omg soooooo good
- Thinly sliced prosciutto, hot hot salami and some other delicious cold meat.
Second stage:
- delicious mussels marinated in a carrot and capsicum antipasto thing - it was amazing, I've never tasted anything like it. Was so impressed by that one.
- Just AMAZING seared and lightly dusted calamari. It made me wonder why I had been eating drivel my whole life prior to that point.
Third stage:
- sliced cherry and roma tomatoes with cream cheese and crispbread wafers
- baked mushrooms covered in thinly sliced blue cheese <--- particularly delicious
Fourth stage:
- The duck confit in white beans and a tomato based sauce thing with chorizo sliced in. FUCKING SPECTACULAR though Wade and my stomach's were utterly destroyed at this point, as you can probably imagine.
Five stage:
- Sherry icecream with raisins and a sugar donut thing (basically a giant churro). Also just amazingly delicious.
It was one of the best meals I've had in ages, and it was also just really goddamn good value for money. 9 different courses for $70? Fuck yes, sign me up for that shit.
Thoroughly recommend, particularly if you're interested in new flavours. But goddamn the restaurant is really small so make sure you book :)
