My weekend:
Friday: Halloween concert. The UVic symphony orchestra played Saint-Saens Dance Macabre, Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice (yes, the one in Fantasia with Mickey Mouse and all the brooms), and Berlioz' Symphony Fantastique. The orchestra was in costume: mostly zombie-types, as they were restricted to black/white/red, but there was one cellists with a knife in his back and all the bass players wore viking hats with skulls. The conductor had a large spiderweb on the back of his tux.
Concert itself was quite fun, if a little Symphony Mediocre.
Followed by Pina Coladas and Corpse Bride.
Saturday: Mostly cleaning, for Eclectic Living Room Concert III! I don't know if I've talked about them before, but so far each month we've hosted an informal and varied concert. Highly entertaining. This month we had Schumann, Vivaldi, Eckhardt-Grammaté, improv, and Colombian and South American folk music, among others. So much fun. Oh, and we did an audience-participation version of Steve Reich's Clapping Music.
Sunday: Made crockpot stew. Went to the ballet: small, new local ballet company. Kind of meh, until they did Firebird, which was really fun. Some good dancing, fun choreography. They need to be able to afford live music, though. It would have improved the energy in the non-Firebird stuff.
Home, ate crockpot stew and vegan chocolate cake while watching Doctor Who, then to UVic for the dress rehearsal of an installation piece that I played for a couple of weeks ago, a PHD project of a local composer. Really fun to hear how it turns out.
And now, it's only 8:30pm so I suppose there are still useful things I could do, but I feel like maybe I should just go to bed now. Ah well. Gotta love Daylight Savings.
PS I leave for Halifax a week from tomorrow!
