Фердинанду не разрешили играть в теннис
Как сообщает официальный сайт УЕФА, защитник «Юнайтед» Рио Фердинанд хотел принять участие в первом турнире серии Masters по настольному теннису, который недавно прошел в Лондонском Королевском Альберт-Холле. Но сэр Алекс запретил Фердинанду играть в какие-либо другие виды спорта кроме футбола.
«Тренеры не разрешили мне поехать на турнир, потому что у нас игры в субботу и во вторник, а между ними каждый день тренировки, - пожаловался защитник «Манчестер Юнайтед». - Дико обидно, потому что мне очень нравится настольный теннис, и я хотел заявиться и указать кое-кому на его настоящее место».
В турнире принимали участие экс-звезды английской сборной Гленн Ходдл и Джон Барнс, а также Джеймс Харпер из «Рединга».

The sport's inaugural Masters event recently graced London's Royal Albert Hall, and alongside the professional ping-pong players strutting their stuff was an exhibition match in which former England stars Glenn Hoddle and John Barnes took on Reading FC's James Harper, who won an intra-club competition, and Olympic triple jump gold-medallist Jonathan Edwards. Perhaps inspired by the fact that for some reason their chart-topping singing careers never took them to the great venue, Hoddle and Barnes recovered from 6-1 down to win 12-10 but there are plenty of current soccer stars who could give them a game. Robin van Persie is said to have had potential as an international, while Rio Ferdinand was originally slated to take part in the event but club commitments meant he withdrew. "The management won't allow me to come down because we have games Saturday and Wednesday and obviously training every day in between," Ferdinand said. "I'm gutted because I like a game of TT and was hoping to come and put a few people in their places."
