An update of sorts + fic recs for you!
Not sure if anyone will actually read this, but here goes. Rambles and fic recs below:
I've got a million fic ideas and unfinished fics and I'm just sitting here not writing any of them. I'm sure many of you can relate, writing is haaard. I'm seriously contemplating signing up for the Team Free Will Big Bang, I've got an AU already in my head, but I've found myself backing out of the last couple of big bangs I've signed up for. Let's hope this one actually gets posted.
I've also been really lacking in fics to read, if you know any great Sam-centric gen fics, hit me up! In the meantime, here are some of my all-time fave fics (all spn and Sam-centric):
The Sammy 'verse by shangrilada - An AU in which Sam suffers from sever asthma, the most brotherly Sam and Dean I've ever come across in fic or on screen.
Anything by mentholpixie, but a particular favourite of mine from her is Fade - Sam's sick, Dean's panicking and everything's about to go to hell. Sam needs a whole new life, one where his last name isn't Winchester because Winchesters are cursed.
Again, I'd rec any of foolscapper's fics, but my favourites are Hanged, Drawn and Quatered - "Bar fight. Don't tell Dean. I don't want to hear it. You just... You understand best. You get it best, y'know? You get me." Death brings Sam back - sort of. A domestic, curtain-fic sort of piece that explores different sections of what makes Sam Winchester. An alternative to S07E01, where raising our boy's soul doesn't go exactly to plan. (featuring STUNNING art from quickreaver)
And How The Wild Things Start - 9x23 diverging AU. "This is where it starts - the brightly lit ring, the screams, the glinting of knives, the baring of teeth. This, right here, is where it begins. Sam turns to Dean, Metatron just a hero's walk away, and Dean slams his fist into the side of Sam's face. It will bruise, but that's not the point. Sam will not face Metatron's blade and wrath, but that is not the point. The point is, Dean puts Sam's hands on his chest, the action sickly sweet like perfume left on a tacky, bloated corpse - and then he walks away. He leaves Sam, dreaming black dreams on the ground, just outside of the impala. Baby does not protect him when one of Abaddon's followers finds him. Baby does not scream for help or look for Dean when the demons drag Sam's unconscious body away.
When Dean leaves Metatron's burnt-out husk, his bones screaming ecstasy from the kill, he finds Sam gone."
Head Space by ameliacareful - A witch curses Sam leaving him blind, deaf, and bedridden. Left with only the inside of his own head and the occasional touch, Sam begins to unravel.
And Beats High Mountain Down by The_Bookkeeper - Sam is concussed and hallucinating; Dean is crippled and drugged to the gills. It is, in short, about the worst possible moment for sudden, unexpected time travel.
Still Life by themegalosaurus - Jessica Moore comes back to life. She's not what Sam expects.
Go, said the Bird by elwarre - Sam and reality have never been on the best of terms. A non-hunting AU.
The Way Back by rainylemons - AU in which Dean gets between Lucifer and Cas, preventing Castiel’s death and eventual return to full-blooded angelhood. In the following months, a mostly human Cas gets a job at Taco Bell, Dean recovers from wounds given to him by Lucifer, and a silent, shell-shocked Sam wanders in from the cold.
John Dies At The End by kalliel - If John can't save Sam, then he's going to have to kill him--and Sam, with the dubious gift of demonic foresight, already knows which road John's chosen. Dean, though? Dean's the swing vote.
'Til Human Voices Wake Us by Semira - Every part of Sam burns. There's blood on his lips that's not his own (not that kind; it doesn't taste right), and even the smallest rustle or crunch of leaves crashes against his eardrums and sends pain splintering through his skull. He's so thirsty. (Vampire AU 'verse, only one installment posted so far)
Semper Familia by KatZen - When his dad comes back into the clearing with a scrawny kid he's just bought in tow, Dean isn't surprised. He knows Lilim aren't human, that they're creatures, like witches or wendigo. But the kid that John's got by the arm, who's pulled as far away from Dean's dad as possible without actually trying to get his arm back, the kid whose eyes don't leave John and are bright with fear, the kid who looks like he hasn't eaten in a couple of days and is obviously favoring his left leg...
This kid looks an awful lot like a person. And what's more, he's the same age Sammy would have been.
Fly by Askance - Sam wakes up in an unfamiliar room with Dean and finds that he can't remember anything past the moment when those angels began to fall from Heaven. He has a sneaking suspicion that something is not quite right. (Darkfic)
Delicate Arguments [Of Faith and Murder] by IndiaChick - Following Jessica’s death, Sam drops off the grid. Dean searches everywhere for his brother but finds only a breadcrumb trail of blood that leads nowhere. Finally, a group of hunters tracks Sam down in Waycross, Georgia; and Dean has thirty minutes to save Sam, or kill him.
Don't Let Me Be Lonely by roque_clasique - The first thing Sam says when he comes to in the hospital in Colorado is, "Chupa this cabra, asshole." Then he passes out again.
Beneath the Trees 'verse by Lise - Sam doesn't go to Stanford. Everything goes downhill from there.
Five Times Sammy Wasn't by kellifer_fic - There are the times Sammy... wasn't.
The Tiend on All Hallows' Eve by jedisapphire - Sam Winchester has been taken by the fairies and pressed into service in the elf guard. It’s up to Dean to save him before something very bad happens.
