What we know about Supernatural season 13 so far

I've been scraping through as many SDCC interviews with the cast and writers as possible and this is the information I found about this upcoming season. I originally posted this on tumblr, but thought I'd post over here, too. Information comes from SDCC panel, press interviews. Seat42F interviews had a lot of background noise so I apologise if I ( Read more... )

I think the premier episode is going to be an emotional roller coaster for sure! Last season felt very unemotional to me, we didn't get nearly as much of Sam and Dean as I'd have liked (maybe because of J2's new babies), and the story lingered too much on side characters. Hopefully, season 13 will put the brothers back at the centre of the story.

I was so hyped before last season only to be disappointed, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. Either way, I'm always happy to see more Sam and Dean and at least the BMoLs are gone.

Based on what the actors and writers have said, it seems like Sam and Dean might clash a little in the first couple of episodes - not on the scale of s8 or s9, more just like a disagreement that will end with both of them on the same page eventually.
I was happy Sam and Dean were completely on the same side in s12 and not keeping secrets for the most part, but I agree it all felt a little cold up until the penultimate episode when we finally got some family hugs. Mary's addition to the show had so much potential to really dig into the character's emotions and bring up things that have been forgotten, and it did a little, but I feel they only really scraped the surface and it left the whole thing a little unemotional. I had trouble connecting with season 12, I'm hoping s13 will be better.

My take-away from all this? JARED THINKS SAM THINKS HE STILL HAS DEMON BLOOD.

I hate to get excited about this because it most surely will come to nothing, and yet...

The direct quote from Jared: "I think Sam sees himself kind of as, um, not a bastard child or a nephilim by any means, but as almost like used goods. Sam kind of was supposed to do bad things and he had some demon blood in him - it's still there."

He sounds quite sure about it, or maybe I'm just getting my hopes up? I did see somewhere that Jared teased Sam's returning powers but I couldn't find any interview to back it up so I'm hesitant to believe. Honestly, although I wasn't a huge fan of season 12 overall, I did love that they brought up Sam's psychic powers in American Nightmare and I'm always hopeful for the show to delve back into that, even just a little. :)
