And the pitch . . .

Today was the moment when Anika's friend looks at me and asks, "What's your book about?"  And all of my pretty polished sentences flash through my brain except this girl is five almost six and all those sentences wouldn't make sense so I said, "A girl has to decide whether to do what people expect or whether to become Queen of the Goblins."

Talk about boiling a book down to the core essence :)

"Oh," she said.  "Well, that's easy."

"Really?"

"Yes.  Goblins are yucky.  Ew, goblins.  We don't like goblins, do we Anika?"

Exactly.

"Let's play Hollywood girls."  -true, her mom and I talked about the hollywood girl thing and traced it to a recent movie she had seen.

Hurrah for the Goblin Queen :).  I adore this friend of Anika's, sweet and wonderful, and in ten years, she'll be perfect for looking at the world from different angles.  All the more reason to get my book out there.  I sent off another agent-proposal today.  Feels strange to get back in the game after a year off for MFA homework and teaching, but fun, too.  I really don't mind the rejections that much because it's one closer to that acceptance and I've had too many disappointments turn into opportunities to believe in dejection.  The universe has some twisted paths but so far they've all lead me to incredible hidden meadows so here's to traveling again :)
