I sent The Goblin Queen off today with lots of shadow sparkles and goblin dust!  I had to put the word count up just to see it.  :)

Now I'm giving myself a mandatory vacation.  No checking on where I left Dirt, no queries or brainstorms or anything.  Just a few days of reading, computer games, and summer vacation.  I sure will appreciate it!

good for you! bet she'll appreciate the small gesture, and if not you can query everyone else in august after you've had a lovely month off.

i'm on waiting vaca too. i'm not doing any writing--just family stuff and lj of course, which is my new favorite kind of writing!

this just in: agent talked to 4 editors this morning, 4/4 want to see it! she calls them on the phone to discuss it etc. AND she sent me two arcs this morning as a gift. =9 did i mention i LOVE her?? you should start sending agents queries. SERIOUSLY. well, in august anyway. xoxox

You are special :). I'd love to read your story if you need more readers- though it may take me a little while :). I love shapeshifting stories.

thank ya!!! it is so fun--it's just surreal and nuts--this morning i actually said to ethan, "I have to interupt our game for a second to go talk to my agent. she's calling from new york." and then, i looked around for movie cameras. am i acting??? just crazy cool.

so, ya, if i were you i'd start quering agents--just do it electronically, most of them take them--and the rejections don't sting quite as hard. i had several in the first bunch--not right for our list, etc. and while i still got that sinking stomach feeling it wasn't as harsh as opening up a SASE one year later and having it say the same thing--it's pretty immediate. and remember, YOU ONLY NEED ONE YES!!

now is it bad form to query an agent when an editor has the manuscript or does that give them more incentive to sign me?

silly question- I should know better but I'm a little tired. That doesn't undermine the "exclusive" attention, right?

look at me- how long did that vacation last? hahahahaha

NO!! It gives them more incentive to sign you---
It's not a silly question--no, it doesn't undermine the exclusive, that's only for an editor. write this:

dear blah blah,
g.q., the story of a goblin queen who....... is currently under consideration at ____where they requested a whole submission. i'm beginning to query agents as well. email me and i'll tell ya more. xo
