First, if I were a Fae, I would be
What type of Fae are you? Pretty fun questions, actually. Thanks
frost_light! Looks like we're both nymphs!
Second, I went on a quest for Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
melissa_writing today. I live in Small Town, California where most of the dollars are spent by retirees and tourists. We don't have big chain stores. I found an old gift certificate this morning to a local bookstore (hooray- because we're broke). I looked all over the store and I wasn't too surprised not to find a display or copies. I asked the clerk and she said, "Oh, no, we don't have it, but I did order a copy for myself. I can sell that one to you."
"Great!" I said. "Thank you."
"I was going to read it to see if we should stock some copies."
"It's getting great press," I said. "It's taking off."
"Really."
"Maybe you should buy a few more," I said.
"I guess I should."
I know what I'm doing this afternoon :). I also forgot to mention I had a great visit to the library and found Stephanie Meyer's New Moon and Holly Black's Tithe and Valiant. I just need to finish Terry Pratchett's The Last Hero (a big graphic novel from same library- fun to see the illustrations). I have reading list that feels like dark chocolate melted into coffee with real whipped cream. Yummy reading.
As for rewrites, I conquered 70 pages of Goblin Queen yesterday (that section had been workshopped in MFA classes and rewritten 3 other times, so that is the easier part). So far today, nothing . . . but a few ideas for convoluted situations farther in the book.
Now I'm on a quest for Carrie Jones
carriejones Tips on Having a Gay (ex)Boyfriend (must be too shocking for our small town bookstore today- I looked :). Didn't have enough $ on the gift certificate anyway- sorry! But I'll figure out a way soon.
Sending good book selling vibes out there to the published authors. A snowflake can start an avalanche . . .
