I am against animal cruelty, but I'm not going to change my icon photo for a month to "raise awareness" - I'll donate my money or time to SPCA or the Disabled Animals Welfare Group (chch) or help spread the word when thinks like Clark Kent from City Kitties Rescue comes up, and give a few $$ to people who do have animals that suddenly become VERY EXPENSIVE, because they are trying to give them the best life... But I won't change my image because all that does is make my headshot one of an animal.
I am all for raising awareness and finding effective treatment and cures for Cancer - all types. But I'm not going to share the colour of my underwear or where I put my handbag as some kind of stupid guessing game - how does THAT raise awareness? I will spread news articles or ask my friends if they've had their smear or boob squeeze (or turn and cough) and normalise that as a conversation not to be ashamed of. I will help them raise funds as they stand on the corner and my chorus will gratefully accept to sing at fundraising concerts. But telling you "orange with pink lace trim" is not how you raise awareness.
I have opinions on many things like drunk driving, physical and emotional abuse, the new dove bodywash formula, the changes to ACC subsidies, the correlation between food I crave and food that I should not be eating, rent prices in Dunedin, people being on time and why four won't put the biggest loser on-demand! But I will be upfront and honest about it - not some kind of random side action.
If you really care about anything, then DO something!
