So recently I listened to "A Study in Emerald" by Neil Gaiman, which was for a while free on his site. I found that I really enjoyed being able to listen to a novel like that, and I've been looking for other books that I could listen to like that (without having to break my bank account over it). Just something to add a bit more variety to my 2 hr/day commute.
So first of all, I found that About.com had
an excellent article to help me get started with searching for useful books in this area. Of course, the audiobooks I can get for free are not going to be read by professional actors, and they won't include the latest novels, but still it'd be nice to catch up on the classics. =)
The first one I found useful was
LibriVox. But I found myself quickly getting annoyed by the fact that I couldn't browse books by genre as I would in a book store. If I had a specific book in mind though, this would probably be a good resource to use.
So the second site I found was far more useful.
BooksShouldBeFree.com lists a wide variety of books by genre, and even includes a small thumbnail of the novel picture to help you get an idea of what you're looking at. I was especially impressed by their variety in Adventures.
Oh, and just to close the post out, I got the idea to start looking at free audiobooks this morning when I noticed an advertisement for reading
Witch & Wizard for free on their site. (Of course they're comparing it to Harry Potter, but you never know -- it might be decent!)
