OBAMA WINS IOWA.

EDWARDS COMING IN SECOND, WITH CLINTON SCANT INCHES BEHIND IN THIRD.

I gotta tell ya, this is... not what I saw happening, given that the Iowa caucuses are not easy for newbies to navigate, and Obama has mostly been rocking the youth vote. I am pleasantly surprised and have GOT to find out what they've been doing for education and organization in Iowa, 'cause, damn. Also: I gotta admit, Obama is my second choice behind Edwards, but I wouldn't have a problem voting for him. Young, handsome, charming, running an optimistic campaign, agrees with me on about 80% of my issues; yeah, he'll do.

That said:

Can we just have every state run their primary on February first next time, and not have this bizarre ritual of having candidates crowned by friggin' Iowa every time? I like Iowa as a state, but there are FIFTY STATES. Yeesh.

Also:

To the shock of all newskind, women voted for Obama over Clinton in pretty much the exact same numbers that the state voted for Obama over Clinton. They are apparently all astonished that women don't automatically vote for someone with the same genitalia (which, really, we have a LOT of practice in having to ignore gender and vote based on other things, is it any freakin' wonder?).

Note to women next time: I'm all happy that we have a woman as a top-tier candidate, but now that it has been done and can hopefully be done again, can we get someone else next time, please? Someone who might I'm already scouting our current crop of female Democratic governors (we have five) and senators (ten who are not already Hillary Clinton). That's fifteen. Not exactly fightin' odds, but hey, it's a start.
