Nor have I really. Closest thing to camping was in a trailer near a lake.

Really? Camping was a large part of my childhood summers. Camping and hiking.

I've been to camps a few times. Nothing honestly exciting happened.

One of these days if I ever come up there with you I'll drag you out to the middle of nowhere and we can all sing and get drunk and eat potatoes together in sub 0 weather that Canukistan is famous for.

Camping is an entirely different matter.
