I'm not much of an actor. I actualy find improvisation far easier. Our team for the Canadian Improv Games managed to get our act together in two weeks enough to place second in our zone. Went on to the island tournament, it was great. Improv is so damn friendly if you ignore the politicking. Our school didn't have the greatest budget either (my grade 12 year they did Grease..because they already had enough costumes from years before). But the community theatre I belonged to had a good budget and some great volunteers. THey had no catwalks either, just boxes built up in the attic for the lights to hang from..tricky getting to them as not all the attic floor was covered and you payed on beams. I didn't do many lights there, I helped at festival in a theatre with catwaks, and played in the lighting/sound booth at my home theatre. Mostly I was a stage ninja, and all around do-it person..no respect and shit from the directors, but endless fun backstage. W even hid half-naked guys under the beds onstage..ah those were the days (last year). But I think I should cut this reply off now, it's a bit much on the reading.
Hope your holidays kicked some serious and not so serious ass
Heh, we took other people's props from them, me being a minor character and having no props but what I brought in, I hid them in my box and used what wasn't found.
They went rather well, thank you. The one bad thing about them though, was that I don't have the video card to play KotOR, but I'll live.
from Kids? wow, that's weird, the youngest person we had while at rehersals was a Freshman or two, and they were in the play. We had two kids and one of my friends come backstage accidentally while searching for the bathrooms 'twas funny.
Our theatre was in it's own building, actually, it was in the old junior high school for our county, it used to be this building, but they built a new Junior High for our county, so they use it as a place for special events and the bad kids. So we just locked the doors during rehersals and stuff, heh, that helped us thwart kids, and the fact that we didn't use props until our final rehersal because we didn't get them all in in time.
I was in community theatre, own building..they even have their marquee signs up now. Tis beautiful, just went through some amazing renovations and looks like it has a giant space squid on the front (I should get pictures *shakes head*)
Anyway, they do a yearly pantomime, which includes many adorable kids..and about 3 I wanted to kill, or at least hang form the lights. Actually got in trouble threatening them with that, too
