So I've not been up to too much lately. I've seen a number of movies and seen a number of people, so it's all good.
Last Friday I was pulled off with friends to watch Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride.' It's a movie I'd recommend to almost anyone, though a friend spent the whole duration comparing it to 'Nightmare Before Christmas.' Corpse doesn't compare to Nightmare any more than 'Sleepy Hollow' does, really. They're all different movies. I loved it though, the stopmotion animation was neat to see, keep a close eye on the butterfly in the opening credits.
After the movie we came back to Res so buddy could grab a sweater, then two of us went off to the local gay bar he's trying to get a job at. Clubs, bleh. Loud and, well..loud! I prefer a nice quiet lounge where I can curl in the corner and hide. Instead I was bodily thrown onto the dance floor. At least a got a drink first, so I didn't quite freeze.
Sunday night was another movie: 'Balzak and the Little Chinese Seamstress.' I have to admit I loved this movie as well. The story wasn't as engaging as 'Wild Swans,' but if that book ever comes out in movie form I'll be right there, along with 'Ties that Bind, Ties that Break.' They could all make good movies, Balzak was wonderful and not quite life affirming though. Perfect ne.
Monday after getting off class I had a nap, then watches 'Rabbit Proof Fence' (yes, it's been a movie week). That was good, nice filming, story that hits right at the heart, digs in and won't let go. Another that should be watched
Tuesday was 'Evil Dead 2' and 'Army of Darkness.' I think that's all that needs to be said. Bruce Campbell is great, but he belongs on the cover of a harlequin..in a poofed up pirate shirt undone to the waist and a half-dressed woman in his arms.
I've also found a group to play tabletop with again. You don't realise how much you miss things until you're seated around a couple tables in a dark cafeteria, with people rule bickering and running around buying snacks in the middle of adventures. My char popped in in the middle of things, so I'll need to do some sideline quests to beef her up a little. Other than that, I might go insane or I might not, either way I've missed this.
Saw part of the art gallery today, the contemporary art section. I'll have to go again next week though as we barely started looking around before we got kicked out (it was closing, I didn't wreck anything I swear it).
Schools been going alright, I had three projects handed in this week, and an article on a guest speaker we had will be passed in bright and early tomorrow morning. On top of that, we should be assigned our profile subject tomorrow, and start work on our features. They'll be our main project of the year as we have no final exams for the class. I'm still debating on whether that's good or bad fortune.
I'm a little nervous about it, but I think I'll be far jumpier when I get a name.
And, to calm a couple people down: I saw the doctor today, he was nice and seemed genuine. At least to the point of making sure I have a support network, and getting me right-then blood testing. So, blood sugar, iron, vitamins and thyroid. All shall be tested and my results will be in by Monday. Hopefully.
The blood tests were a bit odd, I have bruises on both arms now. My right arm was going well until the vein started spasming and refused to give any blood. Strangely this was the arm that didn't hurt, except for the usual throbbing that starts a minute after blood is cut off. So, it was on to the left arm, and that worked out well enough but for the two slightly sore arms.
Played soccer today too, it was a busy day and doesn't make any sense chronologically..but thats my blogger's perogie I guess. The game was lost, and a few of us watched Advent Children. Now, I've never played any of the Final Fantasy games..ever. In spite of that, I was enchanted by the movie, the graphics were wonderful. I did notice that the women weren't nearly as well done as the men. This isn't to come down on the artists..they just didn't look natural. There was no movement where women need movement, and their chests looked like molded forms stuck on instead of real body parts. I can image getting the bounce and play in there would be a lot of work though, so it only came up after the guys mention how well-done the chests were, silly boys.
