I love when I get asked by a cashier at the local grocery store whether I'm having a party. I guess that the combination of meat, buns, mixers, beer, and plastic cups is a dead giveaway. If she'd have bagged my hamburger buns on top like I'd asked, I might have even invited her. I kinda think that my buddy Colin would have fancied her, if he could have seen past the fact that she was a checker at Fred Meyers.
Today's song has been on my mind because I've been spinning it in
the jazz room of Turntable.fm, and getting quite a positive response to it as well. The number is called Happy Hour, and it's by bay-area group, Tin Hat Trio (now a quartet, calls themselves merely Tin Hat). Depending on your own particular definition of "Jazz" this group might not seem appropriate to a "Jazz Room" but luckily the rules online are a little lax. Personally, I can't see why even a genre-hardliner would complain --- it's a trio of talented musicians who play amazing, tight, original compositions, with plenty of improvisation. And it's lively enough to work for a Friday song for the bar as well. Dig.
