Portugal. The Man - 08/17/11

Aug 17, 2011 01:00

I'm happy to turn to my good friend Mason Hunter for assistance.  Mason was instrumental in the creation of the Daily Music Fix.  Back in 2007, when we were living together, he suggested the idea of me sending out a song ever day to a group of friends --- he even came up with the name. Thanks buddy.

Portugal. the Man is a band based out of Portland, OR, that I was recently introduced to by random station surfing and the Soundhound app on my Android. Many of the band members were originally known as "Anatomy of a Ghost" and they have been getting some pretty good radio time on 94.7fm. Anyway, wikipedia sticks them into the category of "American Psychedelic Rock." I suppose I agree... Some of their sound is distinctly experimental Beatles with a touch of The Pixies perhaps? Imagine a yelling Paul McCartney singing 'Oh Darling' as you listen to this track.
*shrug* Maybe it's a stretch. I'm no Linsel when it comes to breaking down a genre.

Jason Sechrist, drummer, was born in Portland, OR and Ryan Neighbors, keyboardist, grew up in Salem, OR... so there's that... I'm all for local musical talent. Keep it up PDX! The core of the band moved to Portland back in 2004 from Alaska, picked up a few talented band members and recorded their first album Waiter: You Vultures! in 2006.

The track Got it all comes from their latest album released just recently on July 19th. Ultimately, I'm a sucker for a good hook that makes me uncontrollably nod my head in time... I dare you to resist!
