Dear Livejournal, Rachel has been bundled off to a convent for the next two nights so it's just me and the puppy. Luckily, I have the whole day off tomorrow to clean up in preparation for parental arrivals this weekend and then we finally get to finish watching Dark Knight which David, Sam and I started last week. As we ramp up for Rachel's ordination this weekend and then her graduation a week later, things are getting a touch busy. In the midst of all this, I got to meet and speak with a bizarre Toronto icon, Regg Hart. For those who don't perambulate along the university campus, you might be a little confused as to who Regg Hart is. He is a man who, for the last several years, has been hosting symposia and film viewings which he advertises via black and white posters posted up all over campus. These events come and go in cycles so one might see an ad for watching Wizard of Oz and listening to Dark Side of the Moon and then next week an exploration of sex and violence in Bugs Bunny cartoons and then back again. From the few folks I know who have actually been to these things, they are invariably creepy. Regg hosts these events in his basement and attracts a somewhat unsavoury crowd. Regardless, when this stout, older man with pronounced eyebrows chose me to sell him his copy of Michael Coran's latest piece of Catholic Apologetics, he proceeded to explain to me that the modern symposium has lost touch with its Greek ancestor mostly due to the lack of wine. He also told me unasked about how he hosts poetry readings in the traditional Russian style with everyone getting incredibly drunk and no-one asking for an opinion. The man was far less nebishy than I was expecting but still incredibly strange. After taking his money, he wandered off with his little pouch full of flyers and a giant staple gun to go make his dreams happen. I have to applaud that.
Be well, Livejournal. You're a good friend.
Yours truly, Leeman
