Valencia's Day

Feb 14, 2003 13:10

It is an homage to orange juice that takes place on this day each year. Let us all take a moment to really appreciate the crisp, citrus taste of that lovely any-time-of-the-day beverage.
Oh wait it is Valentine's day.
In honor of casual Friday, I am casually working. My cubicle neighbors are off so I am fairly isolated and undisturbed today. This weekend is a long one and I am very very glad. No plans, though. Andrew said he had a couple ideas on how to romance me for Valentine's, and I am leaving any celebration up to him. Perhaps you don't like the holiday? I will accept any Valentine's cliches that may come my way. I just realized it is our first together as husband and wife--is that supposed to be a milestone? Sometimes I forget we are married, though the IRS didn't and deposited a hefty sum into our account today (yay for early filing!).
So, I am told everyday that I may die in the subway or by a dirty bomb. It hit me yesterday that the UN is here as well, which to me seems to be a good target for attacks, despite the fact that countries less evil then us are represented there. No one else seems to think so, though.
I have to admit the fear is getting to me. I am very uncomfortable on the train. Yesterday a woman was text-messaging someone on her cell phone and typed "I M ON MY WAY TO DI," which I interpreted as meaning she was a suicide bomber about to kill us all. She then changed it to "I M ON MY WAY TO D OFIS," correcting her typo.
There are policemen everywhere in the subway, and jet planes patrolling us. Everyday the Post has a new warning for who should be careful: "HOSPITALS ON ALERT," "SCHOOLS ON ALERT," etc etc.
I am close enough to the Empire State building that it would be a disaster. Wouldn't that be a sight? I am not worried about that though, just the trains. Andrew and I have a designated meeting point should something strike (Scott, you may recall the Virgin Megastore at Union Square--that's it. Maybe there will be Apocalypse Sales). But the week is about over and nothing. Is Valentine's Day important enough to try and have a terrorist attack?
At first writing this was going to be part of my lunch break, but I think it will start now instead.
