"New Tribes Missions (Ramona:  Shape-Shifter)" Gabriela Jauregui

A flash of feathers flutters white          my womb

is animal

I spit an insect of blood and taint the world

crycrycrycrycrycrycrycryaiaiaiaiai

wombanimal

my unkempt quills stick               plumage no longer white

pluck my teeth pull my chords the veins of my throat

the throat the womb pullitout

pluck they came to pluck me

The forest fills with thunder

crazy woman cries

leak

lack feathers over my forehead woe the womb

The tomb is unbroken

pull me out like roots

no teeth

like carob soft to smell

Ready to eat my heart of palm is

wild carob caraguatá

I will not scare the missionaries

They ask me to stop crying

but there is so much water in me

so much blood in my throat

no teeth

The wind breath of blood Ramona they call me

stop and if I cannot cry what then

I have made my own trail of blood

unkept

into the forest

woman stuck on a feather

no nails

I spit my love like blood to your feet     leakleak from my beak

the birds of thunder come to peck at my heart

slash my throat

teethmarks everywhere
