there is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man...

Today is my obligatory Twilight Zone marathon.  I'm a bit torn.  I absolutely adore this series for is its continuing relevance; it never gets old or loses its meaning with regard to social issues.  On the other hand, the fact that the same issues still exist (and have always, for the span of human history) scares the hell out of me.

As a future librarian, "The Obsolete Man" carries particular weight for me.  Wordsworth's profession almost seems like a side-note, but it makes a point--the purpose of a librarian is not only to collect and preserve information, but to ensure that it is available to those who seek it.  Televising his death and the way his accuser and judge falls apart at the critical moment is just another way of getting information to those who need it--information about the real makeup of the State, about the humanity an inhumanity of those who live behind the monolithic facade.

ETA:  I should say, this marathon is of my own making.  Sci-Fi (or 'SyFy', which pains me to type, believe me) seems to have totally flipped since the name change.  They're playing a freaking Ghost Hunters marathon.  Ghost Hunters?  WTF?!
